“keeping our heritage alive”
Banning’s Tavern has been named to remind us of the wonderful history and heritage we have in Easton and Talbot County. Part of the tradition of Banning’s Tavern will be to keep our heritage alive by providing our guests with interesting facts about our area and the people who have lived here. Jeremiah Banning is the namesake of Banning’s Tavern. Born March 25, 1733 in Talbot County, Jeremiah lived a life of high adventure: as a sea captain, war hero, statesman, business man, farmer and patriot he led a full and exciting life until his death in 1798. A sea faring man for many years out of the port of Oxford, he rose through the ranks to eventually become a ship’s Master. He had many voyages over most of the Atlantic Ocean and survived capture and imprisonment by pirates in the Caribbean; he was also captured by the French navy off of Spain and later rescued by the English.
