“learn about old California travelers”
Congressional legislation established the California Trail Interpretive Center "...to facilitate the interpretation of the history of development and use of trails in settling the western portion of the United States..." Visitors have the opportunity to experience multimedia exhibits, life size dioramas, and video productions. They can hike trails, attend interpretive programs, and speak with staff. From this experience visitors will gain an understanding of what is one the most formative events in American history - Westward Expansion.
One of the best stops of our 5,000 mile trip. Definitely worth the stop, right off I-80, you can see it from the highway. Inside was interesting, movies to watch, clothes to try on, all kinds of stuff. Don't miss the wagons and twig shelters outside! Awesome staff, very friendly and helpful. We spent about 2 hours here, so much to see & do, but stop even if you just have 5 minutes!
Warning - navigation took us to their business office. We had to backtrack quite a way to get to the Interpretive Center. Fortunately it was well worth the time it took.
Very interesting and hands on museum.
We enjoyed our stop at the California Trail Interpretive Center. The California Trail was part of our history studies this year so it was very interesting. Lots of things to do and touch. A good stop along the way. Give it about an hour.
We thoroughly enjoyed this visit. Very well done and informative. It really underlined the scale and numbers of people that migrated to the west. The hardships endured was heartbreaking. Was an excellent reminder.
Informative and interesting stop. Fun for kids and adults
