“a green island of scenic woodlands”
In the midst of endless field of corn and soybeans stands 142-acre Harrison Lake State Park--a green island of scenic woodlands in a rich agricultural region. Harrison Lake is popular for swimming, fishing, camping and canoeing. The area comprising Harrison Lake State Park was at one time part of a vast wetland. This mysterious area contained towering trees, soggy black soil and was a haven for the swamp rattlesnake (or massasauga, as it is also known). Very little remains of that once great swamp, but the park still harbors unique natural features associated with wetlands. Great blue herons and common egrets can be sighted at the lake's shallow western end. Numerous songbirds inhabit the park's meadows and woodlands such as the vesper sparrow, common yellowthroat and brown thrasher. Several species of reptiles and amphibians find the park's habitat suitable. Box turtles, painted turtles, garter snakes, green frogs and American toads are found here. Small mammals such as red fox, raccoon, skunk and the uncommon thirteen-lined ground squirrel are frequently seen.

This is a beautiful, lush green park full of trees, alongside a large man-made lake. Rated as the favorite park in Ohio, it is very popular with locals. 50 amp electric at each site. Water spigot and dump at entrance/exit. Very, very clean!
Several shower house buildings throughout the park looked very modern and clean. Rangers and camp hosts on site. Wood for sale, kayaks and canoes to rent.
Swimming beach, sand volley ball court, basketball court, soccer goals on a smaller field, playground, hiking trails. There's lots to do in the park. Which is a good thing because there is nothing else in the area. We enjoyed checking out the old farmhouses and barns in the area, but there's nothing but corn and beans for miles.
Other than feeling sort of like we were in a terrarium, it was a lovely place to spend a couple days relaxing in the shade.
Too many trees for satellite. MiFi had four bars LTE.

We opted for this park on a WHIM, after arriving at another park in That State Up North that lacked paved spots, lacked good grade, lacked enough gravel on the pads, lacked electric poles near the sites. It had waterfront spots but that’s it. Once we arrived after a rainy week and experienced all the mud, we said nope.
Harrison Lake State Park is as described, in the middle of corn and bean fields. Which is exactly what we like. Quiet! Plus they have a great fishing lake with water toys for rent, firewood and conveniences for sale in the camp office, two dump stations, potable water at dump station to fill up, 50/30/20 at every paved site, and almost every site is 50’ deep. Flush toilets located thru out the park plus a small laundry room for a longer stay or mishap.

This State Park is unbelievable. Beautiful grass, not allowed to park on the grass, no mud holes after much rain. Unbelievably clean, showers and bathrooms. Dam with water spill into small river, perfect for cranes and Blue Herons. Friendly and helpful hosts!

During this Covid crisis we decided to visit some state parks we've never been too. Really impressed with this campground.
Sites level, not on top of each other in most loops. Quiet place, breezy too.
Swimming beach- on site. Golf courses nearby. Middle of nowhere but it's serene as can be. Nice escape, we will return.

The appeal to others is not lost on me. We arrived here after a long day driving down the palm of Michigan’s mitten, arriving at a decent state park, only to find it full, and thus this was the next closest option.
Dread soaked the hearts of every soul careening down old farm roads in our van as we saw the South end of the campground, rows and rows of RVs packed in like ears in a field full of corn. Signs for registration led us to the North area, where we did pass the non-electric zone, our lungs finally letting go as we realized that at the very least, we’d get a spot in one of those more spacious lots.
And after doing the drive through registration shuffle with a very pleasant campground attendant, who asked us what we’d prefer and as we said “if we could get some space that’d be nice,” found us the largest spot in that non-electric, “tent camping” zone.
Which is what this review is for, generally. The park is huge, mind you, it takes about 5 minutes each way to drive from one corner of the South camping area to the opposite side, where you register. Despite this, they jammed the tent camping all up against a road which gets a considerable amount of traffic, much of it the pedal to the metal just because I can type, and then proceeded to mow down all but a slim line of trees next to the road (and on the other side, the lake.)
While site 209 and the one immediately across the campground road are huge, five or six times as large as the others, the rest are modest at best and with not as much as a sapling arborvitae between them. Were you to actually car camp here, you and your neighbors would be quite intimate. Luckily, a van provides a wall and despite the RV spots all being full or gosh darn nearly so, the tent area was practically empty.
It may be time for me to realize that this part of the country simply doesn’t have the type of camping I feel comfortable in, and if you enjoy electric hookups, hyperdrive Verizon speed and a view of endless farmland and oncoming headlights, this may be a top tier level facility as well. If you prefer something closer to a Grizzly Adams movie though....

We were here for two nights over the 4th of July as we are passing through to MI and enjoyed our stay. The space between campsites was great and the area around the campground was beautiful. We tied hookups only, no water hookups - fill your water tank when you come in the park. Would stay here again.

Made an online reservation 3 hours before arrival for a Thursday night in July. There were 30+ sites available then, so seems like a good day-of bet.
A very family- friendly place with lots of kids biking around, playgrounds, a lake for fishing (but not clean enough for swimming: algae and brown). Was a Christmas is July ice cream social coming up. We had a nice, big spot with electric. Our spot 112 was close-ish to road, but not a busy road.
PLEASE NOTE: north campground seems much bigger spots and further from road than south campground looked. But, south also looked fine.

We stayed here for one night to break up our lengthy route and it was perfect for what we needed. The campground was very clean and quiet. The sites were spacious. The campsites did however lack privacy, luckily for us there were only a handful of campers there so it didn’t matter.
