Camping w hookups: $15 City of Rocks is best visited in late fall, winter or early spring, when temperatures are mild and rattlesnakes are more likely to be dormant. The park offers 52 campsites, including full RV hookups, cactus-rich botanical garden, plus hiking and trails. Top tip: After dark is when City of Rocks really shines, thanks to low light pollution. The park boasts its own 14-inch telescope in a solar-powered observatory open several nights a week

This was a hit for the kids. They climbed for hours. I was wishing for an RV and a book and the kids were wishing for even more time. It was so naturally entertaining we returned a few days later for more rock climbing fun! It was the best 5 dollars ever spent!

A really nice state park, that was pretty quiet in mid-November. We got there late and it said that the park was closed but there were only a few cones that you could simply drive around. It said that you needed a reservation on the signs, but I had called and they said I couldn't make a reservation (?). So we just found a nice site and camped for the night. The rock formations are very interesting and cool-looking.

Amazing night sky views, rock formations and hiking trails. This was an overnighter but in the end of March this park was very busy. I wish I had more time to stay there to explore more. I would recommend this for anyone in SW New Mexico. The closest towns are Denning and Silver City which are both about 30 miles from the park. Drinking water is available but there is no dump site. Electric/water sites are pull-thrus and do not have the same seclusion as the dispersed camping sites IMO. From the site I stayed in (44) I could get spotty T-Mobile service, walking around in that area provided AT&T and T-mobile but very low signal quality, even with a tri-band LTE booster. I manged to get a few decent night photos using a DLSR, even thought the moon was bright and mildly overcast it was still much more that you would ever see in a more populated area.

What a beautiful place. Didn't have much
time to spend there but hope to come back! Each campsite is private and surrounded with rock so it feels like you're the only one there. Worth the 30 minutes it takes to get there off interstate 10
