The San Francisco Peaks are a volcanic mountain range located in north central Arizona, just north of Flagstaff. The highest summit in the range, Humphreys Peak, is the highest point in the state of Arizona at 12,633 feet (3,851 m) in elevation. The San Francisco Peaks are the remains of an eroded stratovolcano.[1] An aquifer within the caldera supplies much of Flagstaff's water while the mountain itself is located within the Coconino National Forest and is a popular site for outdoor recreation. The Arizona Snowbowl ski area is located on the western slopes of Humphreys Peak, and has been the subject of major controversy involving several tribes and environmental groups. Make Arizona your playground with off-highway vehicle tours. Popular locations include Flagstaff’s San Francisco Peaks volcanic field, where more than 400 cinder cones make for fun terrain.

Humphreys Peak is beyond gorgeous! Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, and don't forget hiking boots!
If you're looking to camp here, stay at Freidlein (spelling??) prairie! It's free and right on the mountain. There are tons of pre-arranged areas to camp, so it is first come-first serve.

We enjoyed the views of the park as this was a stopping point along our way. We considered the ski lift but the temps at the top were in the 30's and we were not dressed for that to be comfortable. The kids were excited when it flurried a bit. The flowers were just starting to bud and bloom. I'd say this would be a perfect stop in mid-June.
