“Bed & Breakfast Inn with House Spa and Jacuzzi Tubs”

The LaSalle Bed and Breakfast Inn: Sion Bass House Spa & Thomas Snook House, located just one block from the Allen County Public Library and directly behind Fort Wayne’s downtown Starbucks, have been welcoming travelers with clean, comfortable and affordable lodging since 2003. Recently added in September 2012 was the small studio in Paris France in the Montparnasse District. The main house was built in 1901 by a Fort Wayne home builder for himself. The home has been restored and cared for by its present owners since 1990, preserving its unique Queen Ann neo-classical architecture while adding the modern conveniences of today’s world. The Inn is regularly rated as the top value in lodging in central Fort Wayne considering both price and quality of service. Though a great place to retreat to each evening, it is an even better place to wake to each morning. Breakfast is where you, our guests, can sit down with innkeepers and staff over a home-cooked meal in charming surroundings—whether you are on business from China, researching your family history at the library, or are local residents on a getaway in their own hometown. Private tables also are available if you just want to read the morning newspaper or have a reunion with friends. And if you are a very early riser or are in a hurry, a gift certificate at Starbucks can be included for you in the regular price. The Sion Bass House is, the historic 1842 home of Fort Wayne’s most celebrated Civil War hero Sion Bass, has been added to the LaSalle B&B Inn. Fort Wayne’s only bed and breakfast is now a destination bed and breakfast. Including jacuzzis, steam spa showers, free WiFi, internet TV with Netflix, fireplaces, and top-of-the-line water filtration, and superb sound insulation against downtown traffic. It offers the finest amenities in the city according to the independent judgment of persons knowledgeable of the local hospitality industry, both at Fort Wayne Newspapers and the local Indiana University Hospitality Services Department. (The only way we do not exceed the amenities of larger hotels is the lack of a swimming pool, of large conference facilities, and of a fitness center. However, we have twice the number of jacuzzis as the only downtown hotel that has any at all, and construction of a fitness room will begin shortly.) With greater amenities, a room or suite in the Sion Bass House is not greater than merely a room at a large downtown hotel. But since the main building remains moderately priced, the LaSalle B&B Inn has something to offer for a range of budgets. Rue Daguerre Studio, Do not expect large space. But many will find its affordability compared to hotels and its charm, with all Paris at their feet, an attractive option for experiencing the most visited city in the world. Besides a kitchenette and bathroom with a shower, the main room features a 19th century bedroom set with a hand crafted three-quarter bed and matching armoire and nightstand. Such beds, wider than a single bed but not as wide as a double bed, were and are widely used by couples. It is longer than a double bed. (We have slept comfortably in it during our stays in Paris.) A second bed, a loft full bed, is accessed by ladder. The studio can sleep four, especially if you spend your daytime outside in the city. If you spend time inside, it is intimate and cozy for two. Beyond the bed set, the main room currently has a leather armchair, two folding chairs, and a buffet. It also has 32” flat screen cable TV on the wall (with some English-language channels, best viewed from the bed and armchair), WiFi, and telephone offering free calls with unlimited minutes to US land or cell phones. The large window with break-proof glass allows you to leave the studio safely during the day with the window tilting open at the top for ventilation. Traditional shutters lock closed at night. The kitchenette has a small table for two, a small oven, a microwave, and a washing machine as well as a refrigerator under the countertop. The bathroom has a shower. Normal hotel room amenities like a hairdryer and iron are included. The street, Rue Daguerre, is named after a French inventor of photography. It is celebrated for its open air food and specialty shops drawing Parisians from all over the city. It is like a village in the heart of the city. It is largely pedestrian, closed off to cars. The studio is on the ground floor, immediately behind the interior court in a renovated 1884 masonry building. The cleaning lady can be contacted if need be during your stay. Because of France’s location right off the Atlantic, Paris’s weather is mild most of the year. January is the coldest month with the average minimum temperature falling to 37ºF (3ºC). The temperature rises gradually from there and July has a pleasant average of 79 F (25ºC).Rain is common though it falls less in winter than in any other season. Winter has the occasional snowfall, but it usually melts fast. Summers can have an occasional heat wave. The studio has fans, but (as is typical in most French homes) no AC. The street is in the famous Montparnasse district, a world center for artists of the likes of Picasso and authors like Hemingway and Faulkner between the two wars. It is two blocks from the Montparnasse Cemetery where composer Saint Saens, short story writer Guy de Maupassant, poet Baudelaire, scientist Henri Poincaré, philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre (in the same tomb with feminist Simone de Beauvoir) are buried.
