“More than just apples”
This park is named in honor of grower, wandering missionary, and friend to all who knew him, John Chapman, a man known throughout national folklore as Johnny Appleseed. Johnny's modest final resting place can be found atop a natural mound, the last resident of what was once the Archer Family Cemetery. The park boasts tons of features including a campground and boat ramp. You'll be amazed by all there is to do at Johnny Appleseed Park

Just passing thru, between Illinois and Michigan, we had an opportunity to spend a night in Fort Wayne. On the way, we called to reserve a campsite, and she said they had one left (Sunday nite) - how long was our rig? Our 17' trailer would fit, she said, even if we got there late, we should just pull in.
Rolled in about 9:00 p.m. and the camp host met us and directed us to a small triangle on the corner...just right for our size! $22 for the site gets you water and electric hookup, and there is a convenient, free dump station for campers. The place is clean, and although the spaces are small, the campground has lots of shady trees. I saw no apple trees, which I thought odd for a campground with this name!
The campground is run by the city's Parks and Rec department, and is located in central Ft. Wayne, right next to the Colesium, and convenient to many other attractions. So it would probably be a good spot if you were spending some time in town, even though we just spent the night.
The most fun of our stay here was listening to our GPS voice direct us to the location, on Harry Balls Drive. Say it out loud a few times, and you'll know what I mean!

I went to Fort Wayne to visit a friend for a week and was so happy with how nice it was I ended extending (had to move sites because of availability) for an additional week!
The camp hosts were extremely nice and very helpful! The park even had free WiFi for registered guests and worked pretty well! I'm in IT and work from my rig.
Dump station was very close and easy to access. Laundry facility was clean and did the job. I didn't use the showers but I checked them out and they looked clean and newly remodeled.
Noise within the park was VERY low. The birds were the loudest neighbors. :) Noise on this review only took a hit b/c of the traffic outside of the park. The rig kept nice and cool with all the surrounding trees.

Campground is located close to downtown and along the river. The sites are small, not very level and no privacy separation but are nicely shaded by the trees. The bathrooms and showers are clean and modern. The camp host is very nice and does a good job looking out for the campers. We were booked on a busy sold out weekend and she called to double check that we were coming due to the wait list.
We enjoyed the RiverGreenway into Fort Wayne. There is a dog park and playground.

Johnny Appleseed Campground is a nice little treed city park in Fort Wayne, IN. Most sites are close together, so much so that we shared a water spigot post with four other rigs. They're also partial hookups, but there is a dump station on the way out.
The camp host was very friendly and check-in was easy. She asked if we were in town to visit the genealogy center. We were not, but I thought I'd mention it as a point of interest.
We got all 3 major networks on over the air HDTV.

Needed a passing through campground and it was perfect. Got in late in the afternoon and quickly ate. We go to our national gym to stretch out tired muscles so we didn't use the bath but it was really nice. Does have a code on the door so strangers won't use but it is a bit of a hike We went up to the burial site of Johnny surrounded by apple trees

This campground is in the heart of Fort Wayne. But you really don’t hear much of the city. Very quiet. Very shaded and beautiful. Stumbled upon this one. Only thing I wish was different is if they had the sewer connections at the campsite. But they offer to come to your rv and pump your tanks out for $10. Not too bad. Overall, love this place. Will come back for sure if in the area!

Only stayed here one night on our way south from Michigan. Good location and helpful camp attendants. We did not use any of the facilities, but they are locked for camper use only.
The park was adequate for our overnight needs, and probably good for a longer stay. It was quiet and close to the city.
Be aware that the dog park close by is for residents only. Your dog has to be registered with the county and a yearly fee paid to receive a key for entry.

We stayed one night here on our way across the country. The site was pretty level, if a little muddy. Water is shared by multiple sites, and we didn’t need it for the night. The site had electrical hookups as well.
The campground itself is backed up to several connected areas Johnny Appleseed’s gave, a river, meadows and ball fields. The campground was full but quiet and the hosts were very helpful.

Overall positive. PROS Clean, wooded area with flat and level sites. Staff was very friendly over the phone and accommodated our late arrival. This is a very popular campground and was full of high end RVs. CONS Water is shared between sites and flow was suitable only to fill gravity port. We experienced two annoyances: one of our neighbors smoked pot which stunk us out and required us to close our windows, and at 4:15 am we were awakened by a garbage truck backing in to the campground to empty the dumpster.
