“Where friends meet to eat”
Charles Kincaid's Grocery and Market was established September 5, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas. The grocery store had a full service meat market. O.R. Gentry, who had been the meat cutter since 1947, began cooking hamburgers in 1964. Gentry purchased Kincaid's in 1967. Kincaid's Hamburgers began with one small, used grill bought for $25.00. Initially, 40-50 hamburgers were sold per day. Most of the customers were from the surrounding neighborhood. Arlington Heights High School students began coming to Kincaid's to eat hamburgers for lunch. They told their parents how good the burgers were and word began to spread. Business rapidly evolved from a grocery store to a hamburger grill. Most of the grocery items were removed and the shelves were cut down to countertop height to provide a place for customers to eat. Stand-up counters were unique and popular. The business continued to grow and more grills and fryers were added. Articles began to be written about the hamburgers by the local media (Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Fort Worth Business Press). Local television stations began to feature news spots about Kincaid's that were filmed on-site. A national panel of food editors and food critics chose Kincaid's hamburgers as the best burger in the USA, after eating in over 400 hamburger eateries nationwide. Kincaid's has been featured in many newspaper and magazine publications in the United States and throughout the world. Readers of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram have repeatedly chosen Kincaid's as best burger. Kincaid's hamburgers are made from the very best U.S.D.A. Choice chuck available. The natural vegetarian-fed, hormone, antibiotic and preservative free beef is cut and ground fresh daily at each Kincaid's location. The beef is then handmade into patties weighing one-half pound each. The single largest day in Kincaid's history (3,300 hamburgers) occurred on the Saturday after being chosen as making the best hamburger in the U.S.A. We strive to continually earn best burger status by providing the highest quality product and the best customer service possible. Our thanks and gratitude go to our customers and our employees without whom there would be no Kincaid's.
