“the same whiskey for over 200 years”

Ancient buffalo carved paths through the wilderness that led America's first pioneers and explorers westward. One such trail led to the banks of the Kentucky River where we've been making bourbon whiskey the same way for over 200 years. Uncompromised and unchanged, we're proud of the whiskey we make.  Dedicated to the independent spirit of America, Buffalo Trace is the world's most decorated distillery. We invite you to explore our rich history, our award-winning bourbon and learn why we'll always stand strong. In tribute to the mighty buffalo and the rugged, independent spirit of the pioneers who followed them westward, we created Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Within the past decade, Buffalo Trace has won more awards than any other distillery in the world, including an unmatched seven "Distillery of the Year" titles. Still American family owned and located in Franklin County, Kentucky, the distillery's rich history includes such legendary distillers as E.H. Taylor, Jr, George T. Stagg, Albert B. Blanton, Orville Schupp and Elmer T. Lee. The distillery sprawls impressively over 130 acres and is home to four centuries of architecture - all still fully operational. The late-18th-century distillery on the site of an ancient buffalo crossing offers ghost tours by appointment; many characters from its long history are said to walk the grounds.

This place is totally worth the trip. I know it's my second review, but I went again and just love it so much, I have to leave another! The tours are FREE and the website is a little bit confusing on hours actually. The distillery is open until 3pm (so the people working go home then), but you can take tours until at least 5pm.

Definitely try 1) the bourbon cream and 2) the bourbon brittle.

They make all the best bourbons too-- pappy van winkle, eagle rare, and blantons

This is one of my favorite distilleries! They have a few iconic bourbon brands that are produced here-- buffalo trace (obviously), Blantons (with the little horse on top of the round bottle), and Eagle Rare, my personal favorite (!!!!). I went in the winter time with my family and they'd decorated for the season with garlands and lights. Beautiful and a lot of fun. Definitely recommend stopping at Buffalo Trace if you do a trip along the bourbon trail.

Loved it. Had a great tour guide. Only two of us on the tour so lots of conversation and kind of got the VIP treatment. Saw almost all of the process.

Great place! Tours are free and so is the tasting. It's not on the official bourbon trail but it should be!! This is a must stop for bourbon lovers and novices! Beautiful place. You can smell the bourbon from the storage buildings with the windows open.

Very nice tour guide! I learned a lot about the process of making Bourbon. Free tour lasted over an hour. I really enjoyed it.

Everyone seems to rave about this distillery but I wasn't particularly keen. There are a lot of really interesting historical photos in the waiting area but the (rather dull) guide didn't talk about them much or know much about them. Most of the tour revolved around watching a video which was really cheesy and salesy. We didnt get to see any actual production, just barrel storage and bottling. Compared to the access you get at a craft distiller like Willett (where you even can dip your finger in the beer to taste it!) or the polish of the Jack Daniels tour in Tennessee, Buffalo Trace falls totally flat for me.

Had a wonderful time at Buffalo Trace. We went to several places on the Bourbon Trail and, though this "technically" isn't part of the trail, it's the best stop, in my opinion. The facility is massive and impressive but they maintain a personality and intimacy I didn't really get from other distilleries.

We took the Hard Hat Tour, which was really interesting. Our tour guide was Don, a very informative, older fellow that you can tell has been in the whisky making business in some capacity for a very long time. They show you how the proverbial sausage is made, from corn selection to white dog. They have some of the largest stills in the world—impressive stuff.

When I think "Kentucky" and "bourbon," Buffalo Trace really fulfilled that vision. Worth every bit of time (and it was all free!).

This is the first-ever distillery to be named 'Distillery of the Year' - hear if you call ahead and ask for the Hard Hat Tour it's pretty awesome.
