“Admire the Sandstone Creations!”
At Bogue Chitto State Park, visitors will experience a diversity of natural habitats on one of the most dynamic and scenic river systems in Louisiana. The 1,786-acre site includes small streams, cypress tupelo swamps, a hardwood forest, upland forests and a rolling landscape. Overnight visitors will find accommodations from tent camping to RV camping to cabins overlooking the bluffs. For larger groups and family reunions, the park offers a group camp and a conference room. Frickes Cave, which -- despite its name -- resembles more of a gorge, possesses delicate sandstone spires created when water erodes the surface underneath pebbles. The pebbles remain perched atop the spires, while over time water splashes on the sandstone surface, forming the two-foot tall fingers of sandstone that shoot up from the now-lowered surface. Boardwalks have been built, so that visitors can admire the sandstone creations from afar, as the formations are too delicate to allow visitors to walk amongst them. Fourteen miles of equestrian trails wind through some of the most interesting topography of southern Louisiana, with the trailhead located near Fricke's Cave. A day trip to Bogue Chitto State Park will be a full one, with a river perfect for canoeing or kayaking, 11 lakes stocked with a variety of freshwater fish, a water playground, numerous picnic pavilions and an outdoor classroom.

Town of Folsom or Franklinton is short ride away. October has wonderful season change and even a local who rent horses for trail rides.
Really nice park, it was pretty much full but the sites are far apart so it doesn’t feel crowded. We stayed in the “bottomland” area. These sites do not have sewer but there is a dump site on the way out. Kayaking and tubing is the main thing here but there is also horse back riding, trails and a splash pad. This will probably be somewhere we come to every year.

We are new to camping so trying out parks close to home while we learn our gear. We chose Bottomland site 101, situated on a pond with a wooden deck, electric and water (dump station on exit road). Pros: quiet culdesac, walk to bathhouse, dumpster and “beach” area. Cons: full sun most of the day, deck needs some repairs, pull through is an extended shoulder on the road, poor cell coverage for hotspot and devices (I ordered a MIMO when I got home to up my electronic gear). The park is clean, lots of activities (too hot for us to explore much), good roads to the park and good roads within the park. The Bottomland area is swampy and woodsy, very Louisiana, with wildlife, and mosquitoes - be prepared. We booked another trip for October at Bottomland site 124, true pull through with larger newer deck, situated by a small stream, full shade. (126 is nice too) Most of the BL sites are level and generously spaced. The Upland has full hookups, some shady spots, better cell coverage (while we perused), but less privacy and some with generous grades. I noted Upland 24, 28 and 37 as my picks for privacy, level pads and some shade. Looking forward to returning when it’s cooler and we can enjoy the park.

Bogue Chitto State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and peaceful. We had a great weekend stay, and the weather was perfect. Take the time to explore the beach on the river.
We really enjoyed hiking (it has many trails) and the beach. I enjoyed sitting along the lake in the mornings. My son really enjoyed the splash pad. Bathrooms were clean. Park has a great disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and horse trails.
Stayed in Bottomlands campsite Bottomlands, site 104. No shade. Evening sun shines under awning. Site 103 has better water view and awning faces East, but no shade. Site 105 has shade in the afternoon but cant see water from awning side. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table, BBQ pit, and fire ring. 15A/30A (dont remember if it had 50A) and water; no sewer hookups. Not much shade in the campsite. The site is located on the lake, but the woods block most of the view. Nearest neighbor was at least 20-30 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt.
AT&T had poor service, but Verizon was good. No WiFi.
We camped in a Travel Trailer. Would definitely stay here again and bring kayaks next time. The park has a put in and take out landings on the river.

Bogue Chitto State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and peaceful. We had a great weekend stay, and the weather was perfect, except for one eventing of rain. Take the time to explore the beach on the river.
We really enjoyed hiking (it has many trails) and kayaking the lake at the Day Use Area. My son really enjoyed the splash pad. Bathrooms were clean. Park has a great disc golf course, mountain bike trails, and horse trails.
Stayed in Uplands campsite 21. Site had lots of space, but is sunny during the day. Late afternoon sun shines under awning because door side faces west. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table, BBQ pit, and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, water and sewer hookups. Not much shade in the campsite. Nearest neighbor was 20 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt. Campground road is in need of some repair. Recommend sites (in order): site 31, 23, 28, 24, 30. 30-31 are near extra parking. AT&T had poor service, but Verizon was good.
Would definitely stay here again. The park has put in and take out landings on the river.

This is a nice busy campground. Lots to do. I love coming camping and staying in my bathing suit all day! The beach was fun. I set up a chair in the water and watched my family try to fight the currant. In the afternoon we went to the splash park and slide and my kids had a blast. They also enjoyed the snowball stand. We drove around and planned our next trip! We can’t wait to bring our helmets and ride our bikes on the bike corse! Fun!
Our site was good. No site’s in the uplands get shade 100% of the time. Site 40 got the evening shade which I prefer. We were right across from the bathrooms and next to a little play area which was perfect for my kids.
The bathhouses were very clean the entire time we were here.
Overall the park was fantastic!

What a fabulous family weekend we had celebrating birthdays with a great camping trip to Bogue Chitto State park. My husband made great use of his new flattop griddle and did most of the cooking. Our son resurrected some of his Boy Scout skills assembling the old tent (who’s poles had seen better days). The rain only got us on Friday and the threat of rain kept temperatures quite nice. Our adult kids joined us for a total of 5 adults, 4 dogs. We had a fun time tubing in spite of battling fallen trees and one blown tube (Tubing in the park brought us another by boat) and even made new friends who also live in BR. We stayed in the upperlands on site 9. It was a little uneven and not terribly easy to back into being slightly uphill (we are still kinda new at this) but once in and leveled it was a nice site with full hookups, reliable electricity, park wi-fi, a grill, fire ring, tent pad and lots of trees for shade and a nice view. We were right next to the (vacant) Tentr sites. Sites were spaced out nicely. You do need to make peace with red dirt. Unisex bathhouse with individual complete bathrooms was right across the street. I generally only use our bathroom but after tubing it was nice to get the sand off with a little more water than I’d use in the trailer. We all relaxed, hammocked, played cards, read, napped, had movie night and just had a great time being together. I highly recommend Bogue Chitto it’s a beautiful well maintained park. Looking forward to more good times there! — with Allen Childress at Bogue Chitto State Park.
