Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on June 10, 2020The Gaylord KOA has super friendly owners is a solid stopover in transit. Coming from the south, you're just starting to get into the North Woods feel when you reach Gaylord and the location helped build anticipation for the rest of the trip into the Upper Peninsula.
The campground was fairly empty in mid-June so we had some room, but the sites as a whole are right on top of each other and have very little privacy.
They had a small dog park for our dog that was great after a long day of driving and Gaylord has a few stores that made resupplying easy before getting back on the road.

The site was VERY empty due to the COVID situation, but still enough people to not be an absolute ghost town. This was our first trip with the Airstream so we were partially learning and partially trying to enjoy the area.
Pro's
- WIFI IS AMAZING. Like no kidding, amazing wifi. We travel a ton and this rivals our best hotel stays ever. Probably some of that from the park is less than capacity, but on the whole I am guessing its better than most.
- Shaded sites with trees close by
- Friendly staff
- Close enough to the lake for jaunts that way
Con's
- The firepits are very shallow which makes stuff a bit tough to light

Checking in was quick and easy, a camping escort guided us to our site and even helped as a spotter while backing in. The site was large enough with a nice canopy overhead for shade. We stayed in a water/electric site, next time we will be spending a tad extra for the full hook-up site. The fire ring was very tiny and sunk into the ground so we used our cooking grate to perform a fire ring upgrade. The pool was large and clean, they also had a bunch of activities to enjoy such as a mining sluice, mini golf, playgrounds for kids and dogs, 2 different jumping pads, lagger ball and other outdoor family games. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we had questions. The camp store was very well stocked and prices were fantastic. Because of COVID the arcade was shut down but would have been fun with lots of games if it was open. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have already made new reservations for later this year.

We have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and stayed in site 107 for 3 days in mid July. This is a relatively large CG, just under 100 wooded sites, which are reasonably spaced for a private CG. The CG is very clean and well maintained, but rather on the pricy side, even with all of the amenities. The roads and sites are gravel. Our site had a fair bit of slope side to side, which I mentioned to the person that led us to our site. He said they’d look into it. During the week, the CG was only about 1/3 full, but completely filled up on the weekend.
AT&T coverage fair, with 2 Bars of service that fluctuated between 5G and LTE, with speeds up to 4.3 MB/s. The CG is pretty heavily wooded, so access to satellite TV and/or Starlink is highly dependent on location. We had marginal views of the southern and northern skies, but we were able to get DISH coverage on all three western satellites at our site and Starlink was able to get speeds up to 6.5 MB/s. Unfortunately, the CG WiFi wasn’t very usable, less than 1 MB/s, even before the CG filled up.
