This is a great state park. Nice beach area. Large sites with clean buildings. Great experience for the kids to make friends. Road can be a bit noisy but still totally worth it.

We stayed here for 3 nights 4 days working and relaxing. It's a very nice campground, we were on the far loop which I think is an older loop. The sites are nice size and our site (130) was tucked nicely into the backside of the loop.
Downsides:
There are train tracks very close to the campground, you cross them as you enter. So be prepared that you will probably hear the train. Camp grayling (military base) isn't far away and from time to time you'll hear them doing drills, planes and helicopters flying over.
Positives:
Hands down one of the nicest bathroom buildings I've ever seen in a Michigan State Park. The staff were super nice and friendly. The beach is amazing and there is a nice trail along the water side to get down to it.
The dog beach is far away and small, but there is one!
Distances:
20min to hartwick pines
15min to Gaylord

This park is great. Most sites are very big (do your homework some are awesome!). The beach is great! But the water is so high that the “dog beach” doesn’t exist. The campground is extremely close to the main road so there is a lot of road noise! So if that kind of thing bothers, be warned. Also the train tracks are right next to the campground so trains come through a couple times a day. But all of the campers were SO quiet! I rarely heard people before 9 AM ! Lastly the bathrooms and showers in the north loop are horrible! I would be too scared to even shower in there. Bathrooms were filthy the full four days we were here - and very old :(

First, the website you book the campsite at only charges $35 a night. When you arrive, they charge you $22 for each vehicle (truck and trailer) per day and a day pass for each day for $4.00. That is a total of $66 per night. None of this is even hinted at on the reservation website. Oh, and let us not forget all you get is electricity at the site (30 Amps). The site is dirt and heavily wooded. Starlink doesn't work at site three(because of the woods, I doubt it works at any site).
The lake is lovely. You can walk to it but not see it from site 3. Site 3 is close to the dumpsters and the boat ramp. The site also has a lot of room as you are at the end of the camping area and between two roads.
The trees are not cut back, so if you have a 5th wheel or a Class A rig, the branches will brush the top of your rig at the entrance.
