I remember going here as a young child in the 90's. Getting to drive through the park and feed the animals from your car was awesome. The giraffes and ostriches always tried to get in the car. One of the best childhood memories I had.
The Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a real 'jewel' for Texas. Located in a huge area of 1700 acres, has as its main objective to give a chance for endangered species from around the world !!
What a perfect place to visit with your family and for children to learn in a direct way how some of these endangered species look like and actually feed them! During the last couple of years it proves to be a great pole of attraction, therefore you are strongly advised to visit it early in the morning, if you want to get fast access to its premises and avoid large ques. If you can it is better to visit it during the weekdays. On the other hand, if it is in your route for your weekend escape then it is good to know that permission is free of charge on Sundays.
Something important that you should know is that only one feed bag is allowed per car, with which you can feed some amazingly beautiful wild animals, such as zebras and giraffes. The Center is very visitor-friendly and half way from the entrance you will find a small souvenir shop and a restaurant. The staff is very friendly and don't hesitate to ask them any questions you may have. Surely, your youngster will be very impressed with the view of exotic wild life and will have plenty of questions to ask.
Overall, a great place to visit with your family!
We had a lot of fun, the kids LOVED it! You drive around through a safari type park and you feed animals outside your car window. There were a lot of animals to see and some were really friendly. Watch out for the ostriches, they can be aggressive. They even went as far as pecking at the car windows. (We closed the windows so they wouldn't stick their heads in the car)
