Mohican Cabins is a family owned and run business who believes in protecting and respecting the environment and supports sustainability values and integrates them into activities as business owners.  Sustainable design concepts where incorporated in the new properties (all excluding the Mohican 15 Guest Cabin) including passive solar, radiant heat, on-demand hot water, reused and repurposed materials (windows, doors, barn beam and siding cabinets), local materials (wood milled on-site) and labor (most laborers lived no more than 8 miles away), and recyclable materials (long lasting metal roofs and wooden structures). 

"Leave No Trace" land ethic is part of the business plan.  Mohican Cabins also supports local and sustainable food sources and economies when making purchases and is currently working to incorporate a recycling program (a little tricky when the township does not recycle!) Awareness and education about environmental degradation and sustainable growth are goals of the owners reflected in the decision to not use toxic cleaning supplies and harmful detergents for linens including bleach and industrial solvents (that's why our towels are not brilliant white but equally sanitized!) and use of environmentally friendly dish soap, toiletries and paper products (or absence of wasteful paper products like paper towels), and compact fluorescent bulbs.

f you have a more adventurous side, the newest tree house may be your choice.  This 2 guest tree house was originally constructed for the Animal Planet/Discovery Channel Show “Tree House Masters” featuring world renowned tree house designer, Pete Nelson.  

Pete Nelson’s crew from Nelson Treehouse Supply and a local Amish crew constructed the tree house in March 2013.  The interior was designed as a brewery/tasting center for the owner’s Tree House Brewing Company Beer.  Since the airing of the show in June 2013, the interior has been renovated as a tree house cabin to allow for overnight lodging.  

The approach to the tree house is dramatic and includes a set of stairs that lead you up to a 30 foot extension bridge.  The bridge alone is design magic.  The red exterior of this tree house is reminiscent of the many 1800’s era red barns that dot the country side of mid-central Ohio.  Pete Nelson’s crew designed the unique 5 foot stained glass window that graces the east side of the tree house bringing in the morning sunrise in an array of blues, greens, and yellows. An outdoor shower lies just at the end of the extension bridge for a little warm weather clean up and in cold weather, for those willing to embrace the chill. A lovely wrap around deck sets atop the sturdy platform complete with a high top table and chairs for taking in the sights.  The front of the tree house is dressed top to bottom with windows so that guests feel as if they are living amongst the trees.  

The interior walls are covered in wood siding from the property-no drywall found anywhere on this property.  A built-in sofa made of reclaimed barn timbers and siding is topped with soft pillows made by the local Amish seamstresses.  A hickory rocker made just up the road is the perfect rustic touch.  Wanting to snuggle up and watch a movie?  No problem as there is compact flat screen tv/dvd player just the perfect size for the tree house. Enjoy your meal with a spectacular view of the Mohican forest from the high top counter and bar stools that look out one of the 12 windows.  The kitchenette is also complete with everything you might need for your stay-microwave, electric cook top, toaster, and coffee maker.  The cabinets are handmade of the familiar reclaimed barn timbers and slab wood counters varnished with a mirrored gloss tops them off.  The loft sleeping quarters are accessed by a ladder which takes guests up to a queen bed platform just tall enough to sit up in-did someone day hay loft?  Fun and fanciful is the theme of this tree house.  The queen bed platform draped in down overlooks the living area with a beautiful view of the stained glass window.   An indoor toilet room with a sliding barn door is the final touch to this rustic barn style tree house.  Again, this tree house is geared for guests who like a bit of a challenge and want to embrace the compact qualities a real tree house while being pampered by the warmth and appeal of rustic luxury.

Includes: linens, towels (outdoor shower for warm weather months and possibly cold weather too), in-door toilet, queen loft with ladder access, toaster, coffee maker,  mini-ref., two burner electric cook top, fully stocked kitchen, living area, tv/dvd (movie watching only no satellite or cable), small charcoal grill, electric heat pump unit for winter and A/C for summer.  Complimentary coffee and filters. (charcoal grill MUST be used on the ground for safety reasons-Not for use on the platform).
