“cold as the rockies”

Since 1873 the Coors brewery has thrived on a legacy of quality, innovation and customer service. The tour showcases the company’s history and passion for brewing. Your tour takes place in the world’s largest single-site brewery. The brewery experience includes a 30-minute self-paced tour highlighting our malting, brewing and packaging processes. Cool off in the “fresh beer room," where visitors can sip a cold sample and rest on ice-cube benches in a refrigerated room. At the end of the tour, view old photos, neons, historical beer cans, bottles and memorabilia, and have the opportunity to sample* our refreshing products. Be sure to shop in the Coors & Co. gift shop. Guests under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Tours are free of charge. Photos are permitted along the route.

Our family of four (ages 46, 37, 14, and 11) enjoyed this free tour. We went close to when it opened, so the wait was only about 45 min. You then get on the shuttle to take you to the brewery. We like that it was self-guided, so we could go at our own pace. With the little hand-held radios, you could listen to all the points or only the ones that interested you. My husband and I enjoyed the free beer samples at the end. We also purchased a few things at the gift shop.

I have to agree that the forced photo opt at the beginning would have kept the line running way faster if it was optional. It's worth the stop, but I also did the Breckenridge Brewery right before this and was way more impressed with Breckenridge. I'd go back to Coors though, it was a nice time and got a cool Redds Apple Ale Tshirt in the gift shop ;)

This is a nice stop that won't take too long. It is self guided, and there are shuttles. And of course...free beer.

There are a few things that stick out about this tour, two of which are great, and two of which is a bit off-putting.

The Good:
Coors Brewery contains the biggest single room Brew House in the states, which is almost awe-inspiring in person. There is a room filled to the top with massive copper brew kettles, stems extending to the ceiling, which givees off a feeling one part King Arthur, and one part Nasa. Very cool. Also, Coors is very generous with the free beer samples.

The Bad:
The tour process has been heavily corporatized, with reusable walking headset audio tours, a forced photo at the start (which you can buy for too much money :) ), and plastic plaques explaining what's around. The beer isn't up to scratch with the better Colorado craft breweries, but it's also a lot cheaper, and good in its own right.

Anyway, if you are in the area for a few days, it's worth a stop. If you are looking specifically for great beer and don't mind a 30 minute drive, I recommend heading up to Boulder and stopping by Avery Brewery.
