“A look at how saloons used to be”

This is the official online home of the world famous Pioneer Saloon of Goodsprings, Nevada. Within our cozy atmosphere lies a rich history and heritage of the old mining towns, Hollywood of yesteryear and the Wild West! This is the saloon that Clark Gable drank in after he received word of the death of his beautiful wife, Carole Lombard. Many have said Clark Gable was never the same man. Click on the History section to learn more about this and other Historical stories about the Pioneer Saloon and its hometown Goodsprings, Nevada. Next to the Pioneer Saloon is the Goodsprings General Store. This was at one time the Goodsprings Cafe that served many hungry miners 3 square meals a day. Today it still feeds the locals of Goodsprings, not as a cafe, but it supplies all of the staple foods, like milk, butter, eggs, cheese, meats, and much much more. It also has a full line of gourmet foods and chocolates, as well as grilling supplies and a full range of souvenirs. Make sure to stop by the Goodsprings General Store when visiting the Pioneer Saloon. The Saloon has been featured in countless movies and television shows. Much of the decor that graces the big screen sits around the saloon and hangs on the walls to this day. Original newspaper clippings tell story after story of the incredible history of this saloon from yesterday. Make time to tour the area and see what this interesting location unveils about the old west. It is a trip you won't soon forget. From BBQ grilling and a good old fashoned game of horseshoes, to some gift shopping in the old General Store there is something for everyone in the family. Check out the Fun and Gaming section to learn more about the many things you can do at the Pioneer Saloon and its home Goodsprings, Nevada.

On my first trip out west I convinced my family in-law to stop by the old town. I admit my love for Fallout: New Vegas great influenced such a decision, but it was well worth it! It's not too far off the beaten path (maybe 15-20 minutes) and it was fun to walk around the old saloon, it has such a old west ghost town feel. A parlor room of the main bar has the walls covered in article clippings that mention the Town and the Saloon (and yes that included the cover for Fallout:New Vegas). The General store next door had all kinds of fun nick knacks. I wish I had had more time to wander the rest of the town, but what I did see was amazing and the people at the saloon were fun and energetic. Word to the wise, it is apparently also a Ghost "hot spot" so the employees are very interested in the towns haunted history and host ghost hunts regularly. They're an interesting group, but very fun.
Worth the trip!

Once a watering hole for local miners and prospectors the Pioneer Saloon still stands as a reminder of those hardy souls who worked this area many years ago.

The Pioneer Saloon was built in 1913. If you're a fan of old bars with a rich history this place is definitely worth a look.

The inside and outside walls are original. They are made from stamped tin purchased back in the day from Sears and Roebuck. It is considered to be one of the last buildings of its kind in the United States.

The bar inside the saloon was manufactured by Brunswick in Maine in the 1860s. The bar was shipped around Cape Horn to San Francisco.

In the early 1900's the bar was carted across the desert by wagon to the "now ghost town" of Rhyolite, Nevada. After that town faded into obscurity the bar was shipped to the Pioneer Saloon where it sits today.

Talk about some history huh? Imagine the stories that bar could tell if it could talk.

In 1942 movie actress Carol Lombard was killed in a plane crash on Mt. Potosi. Her then husband Clark Gable waited at this bar for 3 days while they combed the lofty peaks of Potosi looking for his wife.

On July 3rd, 1915 a poker game was underway here. One of the men was caught cheating. A gun was pulled. Several bullets were fired. The bullet holes are still in the wall. Hanging right above them is the coroner's report telling exactly what transpired that fateful evening.

The saloon is also rumored to be haunted and has been featured on several of the popular ghost hunting shows. You ever notice these places that are rumored to be haunted all seem to have such a rich interesting history? That's why I enjoy visiting them.

After you wet your whistle here be sure to visit the nearby gift shop, cemetery and ruins around the area.
