“A Natural Wildlife Haven!”

Over 280 species of fish are known to make their home in the waters off the coast of Grand Isle. Brown pelicans--the state bird of Louisiana--dive into the water. Seagulls appear to float on the wind above the shore. Crabs nimbly scamper out of reach of the children chasing them with their nets. This is Grand Isle State Park--a natural haven on the most popular barrier island off the coast of Louisiana. A beach ridge created by the action of the waves of the Gulf, Grand Isle serves as a breakwater between the Gulf and the network of inland channels that connect to the bayou tributaries of the Mississippi River. It is also the launching point for excellent deep-sea salt-water fishing adventures. Every July, a Tarpon Rodeo attracts thousands of fishing competitors to these prolific waters offshore. Speckled trout can be caught by surf fishers year round, especially in the spring and summer. Redfish venture into the range of the surf fishermen in the fall and winter. The warm Gulf waters are enjoyed by swimmers most of the year, and Grand Isle State Park offers an excellent location for splashing in the surf. . Birding enthusiasts will also delight in the beauty of the lagoons and the Gulf shore. This unique environment attracts numerous species of birds and other wildlife, so bring your binoculars or a camera to enjoy the opportunity to view nature unspoiled. So take a trip to the edge of Louisiana. Fishing, birding, swimming, crabbing, hiking, sunning, boating, or just relaxing--Grand Isle State Park gives you the best of Grand Isle.

Our trip to the beach was great. First we went to the normal beach side of the park, then we went to the camping side. We found that the camping side was much closer to the beach but we also found out that space is limited on the camping side and you're supposed to have a camping spot to temporarily park at the beach access near the campsites.

There were no mosquitos near the beach but the path to the beach was swarming with mosquitos so much so that we had to run on our way back to the car. We used the showers on the boardwalk which helped with the mosquitos and sand.

The water was much warmer than we expected but we're from Alaska so everything is warmer than what we're used to.

I would recommend bringing something for mosquito bites and don't forget an umbrella or something for cover as well as a beach chair.

Overall the trip was great and I would recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy the beach.

A long, long drive out to the SP. Not much to see except swamp grass, fishing shacks on stilts and anything else build is pretty much on dredging sand and slab. Water table is about -3' (yes, a negative number). Can't imagine what it is like out there during a storm or hurricane!

Visited once before Katrina and loved its isolation. Site pads are behind very high berm from the Gulf, easy access to beach. Tried two other times in later years, but park was closed after subsequent storms. Understand it has been rebuilt, new pads, bathrooms and is very well maintained.

It is a long way out so best check first for availability and come prepared with food and supplies. They are scarce out here (especially fuel). Park attendants are helpful and friendly, fishing from pier or charter boat is excellent, birding is superb and bugs could be a problem if the weather was right for them.

It is a long drive to the end of Grand Isle but you are rewarded with a nice state park with clean amenities. Large flat pull through sites (much larger than we needed but can accommodate large RVs). Bathrooms are among the cleanest I have ever seen in any state park. Free laundry is a nice perk but do it early (I was first at 7am and it piled up soon after). Beach access. Not nicest beach but ok. The $25 fee does not include a $6 processing fee (only applicable for first night) or tax. Only thing I didn’t like was the vicious mosquitoes!

I saw at least 3-4 Canadians camping here in mid-March. We are from Wisconsin, so I get why they're here. A warm place away from the ice and snow. Apart from a short hiking trail, the beach and fishing both at the beach and inland waters, there isn't a lot to do except kick back and relax in the sun.

Check-in was easy and the RV sites are all cement pull-through pads that will accommodate any rig. The facility is very well kept and the managers (hosts) are very friendly. Good water and clean power at the site. No sewer at the site, but 2 dumps on your way out. The FREE laundry is a big bonus. As has been stated in another review, this place is literally at the very end of the road (LA-1). So, you may want to stop at the Walmart in Cut Off, LA on your way in for food, drinks and gas (the Murphy USA has the best price in the area).

Access to the park is good. Signage could be a bit better. The signs is quite small at the entrance to Admiral Craik Drive. It begins where LA 1 makes a sharp left. Admiral Craik is straight ahead. Check in was quick, easy and informative. The road into the camping area is in good condition. There are speed bumps to control speed. The interior roads are paved and in fair condition.

Our site, 17, was a pull through as they all are except the beach tenting sites. It consisted of an asphalt pad, just wide enough for the rig and a small space to step out onto. Utilities were 50/30 amp power and water located to the left side. We had a table, fire pit and a grill on a grassed. The sites were closely spaced. The internet at our site was good during the week but when the park got busier on the weekend it became poor. OTA TV was adequate. The park is about 10 minutes from groceries etc in the village of Grand Isle

The Comfort Stations were super clean including the two free to use washers and driers.

Be aware. Some sites are easily flooded when it rains. There is no attempt at drainage. This park is very quiet. There are not a lot of street lights so it is fairly good for star gazing at night. The beach sand was groomed a number of times during our stay. It is great for walking or riding a bicycle. The sand surface near the waters edge is quite firm. There is not a lot to do here unless you fish but it is a very nice, incredibly well maintained park

We paid about $12.50 per night using the senior discount.. We feel we received very good value for our dollar and would return if in the area.

Stayed Dec 27, 2019-Jan 10, 2020. Sites were all pull thru and good size, with easy access to beach. Electric & Water only. 2 very nice bath houses and free laundry. Dogs weren’t allowed on beach, so we had to leave park to run them. Constant mechanical noise from dredging off-shore. Don’t let remoteness reviews worry you, they had nice grocery stores close. I worked remotely and had sufficient Verizon cell phone coverage for hot spot.

This state park is well-maintained, has free WiFi and laundry, and beautiful views. It is a short walk to the beach from several access points throughout the campground and elsewhere. All of the sites are pull-thru with water and electric. Our site was perfectly level. Verizon was very good and seemed to be better on our end of the campground (we were site 46). There isn’t much to do in town, but we enjoyed a very peaceful stay here.

Although there is not a view where your site is the area is clean and neat. Drive through sites make it easy to get in and out. Convenient dump site coming in and going out. Electric (50 amp) and water. For seniors it was a 50% discount so we stayed 4 days for $40.

The campground is nice and well maintained. We were in site 14 for 8 days. Some of the turns, though open, were a little tight for bigger rigs, with several leaving deep tracks in the soft ground and mud. Most of the sites, though reasonably level, had fairly large low areas that tended to flood with water a few inches deep. The water did tend to drain within a day or so after the rain stopped. AT&T coverage was “fair”, generally with 3 Bars and up to ~9 MB/s, but usually around or less than 0.4 MB/s. Although the campground is supposed to have WiFi, I was unable to get a connection to it. There is no cable, but we did have DISH satellite coverage at our site, as would any of the sites, so I didn’t test OTA DTV channels.

The beach area was nice, but it was rainy and very windy most of our stay, as two major winter storms raged across the country, though Terri did get out to walk it whenever the weather permitted. One day we did see a shoal of porpoises just out from the park’s pier.

There is only one trail in the campground looks to have low lying areas that flood or hold water most of the time, making hiking it problematic. Although there is a grocery/hardware/everything store a just a few miles down the road, their selection of groceries was rather limited, so don’t plan to get fancy.
