“the longest natural bridge east of the Rockies”

Natural Bridge Park near Natural Bridge, Alabama, is park in Winston County, Alabama, that has been open since 1954.The current owners are Jim and Barbara Denton. The park includes picnic accommodations, an artesian well which supplies drinking fountains, a gift shop featuring hand-crafted items, 27 varieties of fern, a variety of hemlockwhich dates back to the Ice Age and a 30 minute nature trail. The Natural Bridge formation is 60 ft (18.3 m) high, 148 feet (45 m) long, and composed of sandstone and iron ore. This bridge is the longest natural bridge east of theRocky Mountains in North America. Downhill from the natural bridge is an outcropping of rock, presenting the image of a large American Indian head, in the right profile view, similar to that of an old American Indian Head nickel. The stone image is just over 15 feet (4.6 m) high. Downhill from Natural Bridge, the stone Indian head profile appears like the image on the nickel. As of 2002, tourists paid $2.50 to enter the park. Because of insurance concerns, visitors are not allowed to walk over the bridge, but instead, they view it while walking underneath. NOTE: Cost to enter park is still $2.50 as of October 2012. According to park brochure, park is open "from 8:00am until around sunset seven days a week." Photo: All rights reserved by ©Delos Johnson

This place is an unexpected gem! It's easily a quick stop (about 15 minutes from I-22), but if you have the time, the hiking is plentiful and the scenery is gorgeous! Grounds are very well kept and yes, it feels like you effortlessly dropped back into a vacation spot from the 1950s. Admission for adults was $3.50--totally worth it for us! The easy 100yd walk back to see the stunning natural bridge and the subsequent natural amphitheater beneath didn't disappoint. Our dog was thrilled that we stopped and so were we!

We loved this stop. We had our dog with us and he met a new friend there, a Jack Russell named Hoggie. The little dog lived there and led us on a tour, such a sweet dog and a beautiful park.

An easy hike of a quarter mile or so. The cavernous space underneath the bridge is great fun for kids up to the age of senility.

Don't pass this by! I was awestruck when I saw the bridge. I thought this was going to be a cheesy little tourist trap until I walked into the park like area. I was just floored by the majesty of this bridge. Continue on the trail and you will see a second one further back!

Lovely area, expect to spend about 2 hours hiking the natural paths through the woods and cool rock formations. The gate and main building make it feel like the 1950's (I love that feeling). Price is very fair.

This place is much better than I thought it would be. Not too far off the beaten path. Give it a shot
