“12 acres of grape vines”
Enoch’s Stomp, founded by Altus Koegelenberg and Jon Kral in 2004, sits upon 90 acres of beautiful rolling hills in Harleton, East Texas. In 2003, Altus, a passionate fifth generation grape grower from South Africa moved his family to America in search of a more secure life. A fateful run in with Jon, a chemist with a romantic side and a love of nature, led to the vineyard and winery known as Enoch’s Stomp. The property sports 12 acres of grape vines including the varieties, Black Spanish (a.k.a. Lenoir), Blanc DuBois, Norton (a.k.a. Cynthiana), Villard Blanc, Champanel, and Chambourcin. These varietals, as opposed to the more common vinifera grapes (i.e. Merlot, Chardonnay), are well suited for the East Texas terroir, where variable weather patterns, heat, humidity and disease create unique challenges. Given proper treatment and meticulous maintenance, these varieties not only grow in East Texas, but thrive. In fact, cropping to prevent over production is a common necessity. For those with an open mind the premium wines fashioned from these varietals provide a unique tasting opportuntiy for both experienced and inexperienced wine drinkers. Since our inception, Enoch's Stomp has accumulated over 90 medals, the majority belonging to our signature white wine, Blanc DuBois. Enoch's hope is to harness the bounty of creation to provide great wine, great scenery, great relaxation, and a great experience to citizens of East Texas and greater Texas, alike.
