“A Park of Many Trees”
This park is in the San Joaquin valley and is surrounded by the Merced River. The park has many trees and is home to various wildlife, especially birds. Swimming, fishing and picnicking are popular activities. From Interstate 5, take the Newman exit into Newman and continue east on County Road J-18 for five miles; the park entrance is just past the San Joaquin River bridge.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on February 04, 2022Arrived after dark and did the self-registration process. I was the only one there and it was a bit confusing because there are really no distinct campsites. No back-in spots or numbering (although the standard state park self-registration envelope asks for the site number). The facilities are a bit more like a park with one parking lot and picnic tables and BBQ in the grassy areas around the perimeter. Disturbed some locals hanging out in the parking lot when I arrived, but nothing too concerning and they immediately drove away when I arrived. Parked my 24ft class B in a tiny parking space and slept well. Bathroom was open and basic (no showers).

Arrived after dark, there was a group in the group site and another single car camper in the main parking area. As mentioned in another review, it looks more set up for day use. Road noise was pretty loud until the wee hours, then very quiet.
This was a fine stopover, between 99 and I-5, and east to find in the dark. We’re self contained, so didn’t use any of the facilities. Heard a couple of owls hooting at each other.
