“log cabin and all”

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace NHP was established to commemorate the site on which Abraham Lincoln was born, but over the years the Park Service's responsibility has expanded to caring for the natural environment at the Birthplace Unit and the Lincoln Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek. Visitors at each of these sites have an opportunity to experience the pristine waters of Sinking Spring and Knob Creek, view the varied wildlife and hike amid the hardwood forests of Central Kentucky. The park is part of the Cumberland Piedmont Network which consists of 14 parks with diverse cultural and natural resources distributed across seven states and six different physiographic regions.

We had no idea what we we'd see here, but we saw the sign on the highway and decided to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised! It was certainly an interesting place to visit, even if you're not a history buff. We enjoyed checking out the sites, reading the story of the location, and just being in a place of history. This was definitely one of our favorite random stops.

Really cute. I love National Historic Sites. It wasn't very big but the museum was nice. They have a replica house of what Lincoln would have been born in and it's indoors (if the weather is bad, you can still see that). They have a movie they play which I heard from others is good and informative but I had an 18 month old with me and didn't think she would sit still for it.

A really cool stop (about 15 min off of I-65) - the building is pretty epic, the "cabin" is a recreation but still interesting.

Wonderful stop, rich in history. Well worth the scenic ride to get there. They do not charge and never will our tour guide explained.

A little off the path, but once we found it we were inspired by the place. Walking up the 56 steps and looking at the representation of the log cabin where our 16th president spent his first few years. Even seeing where he would get water in the sinking spring was cool. Much more history here than down the road at the boyhood home.

We enjoyed this stop. It was free for us as we did not do a tour. We walked along a trail to the back side of the memorial, walked in to see the cabin, and walked down the beautiful front steps of the memorial. It is a very nice, well taken care of stop.

Worth the visit. It's free when you don't participate in a tour, and you get to walk around and see the different buildings and trails. The Lincoln Birthplace monument is very cool, and inside you get to see the actual cabin where President Lincoln was born (or was it?).
