“making famous BBQ since 1961”
The Demetri's BBQ tradition began in 1961, one block from this location as El Rancho BBQ. In 1973, Demetri brought his already famous BBQ sauce, originalpie recipes, and home cooked breakfasts to the present location. As BIrmingham was developing its own defining style of BBQ, Demetri's was was one of a few top players that defined the Birmingham style of BBQ and separated it from places like North Carolina, Texas or Memphis among others. in those days Its said that if you wanted Birmingham BBQ you would study Demetri's Golden Rule or Olie's While being in Homewood for 50 years, it has been great to see people eating here year after year, meeting with friends, and taking food home to their families. We have accumulated a long list of special people we have met and the best customers for which anyone could ask. Some of you are known by your familiar faces, some have become good friends and a special part of our lives.
This is one of my very favorite restaurants in Birmingham. They are an interesting mix of Greek food and Southern barbecue. Great location in downtown Homewood, plenty of parking, great service, and delicious barbecue. Try their handmade fried pies! And in the morning, I love their barbecue omelette. Closed on Sundays.
