“Charming grand resort in Virginia”

The Homestead is known for many things, but perhaps above all for our elegant Southern hospitality. Each of our 483 distinctive guest rooms and suites is beautifully appointed with rich fabrics and furnishings. Down pillows and featherbeds ensure a superb night’s sleep; artwork has been hand-selected to showcase Virginia’s history; and our rooms are outfitted with every modern convenience – from Wi-Fi to flat-screen TVs – as well as special details such as sun porches and working fireplaces that evoke a quieter era. The Homestead was built in 1766 and as such is one of America’s oldest haunted hotels. Legend has it, a woman was set to marry at the inn, but at the last minute her groom-to-be got cold feet, left her before the ceremony and in response she took her own life. Staff members have reported seeing this bridal apparition roaming the resort.

The pools are named for Thomas Jefferson, who sojourned here in 1818 to spend three weeks relaxing within our Virginia mountain spa. Soaking in the Gentlemen's Pool House three times a day, Jefferson proclaimed the spring waters to be "of the first merit." Today you can follow in the footsteps of Jefferson and so many other renowned Americans by with an hour-long Jefferson Soak, a restorative mountain spa treatment for $17.

The Jefferson Pools consist of two main buildings, which allow for men and women to have their own oasis to heal and relax. Guests under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present during family time and are not permitted during the adult soaking time.

HOURS OF OPERATION
For Christmas/New Year, the Pools will be open Thursday, December 24 through Sunday, January 3 (weather permitting)
12noon-2pm family soaking time
2pm-5pm adult soaking time

Starting Thursday, January 7th there will be only one Bath house open Thursdays through Sundays.
Hours will be from 12noon – 5pm and soaking will be coed all day so swimsuits are required. (Weather permitting).

We stayed here a few years back, not in the main Inn, but one of the condos on site. The condo we stayed at was awesome. Everything was clean and modern and the highlight was the hot tub on the back deck overlooking the valley. There were trails right outside the condo that we used almost every morning to get a workout in and enjoy the nature. The main Inn is really impressive, especially given the history behind it. Several U.S. Presidents were known to vacation here. You really feel like you've stepped back into time when touring this facility. We especially liked meeting at the Inn each day for tea and cookies and melting into a rocking chair on the front terrace.
