“A diverse history”

The Pioneer Village Museum was established in 1974 and the building itself was the original Hot Sulphur Schoolhouse, built in 1924. In addition to the schoolhouse, Pioneer Village is home to the original Hot Sulphur courthouse (1891-1902) and county jail (1897-1937), a blacksmith shop, the “Horseshoe Ranger Station,” which has been converted to a typical early 1900’s ranch house, and the 8 Mile School (1920 – 1942). Besides the buildings, the largest artifacts at Pioneer Village are the Spreader, an early railroad snowplow, and the Winter Park Ski Train caboose, which was once a visitor information center at the ski area.
