North Umpqua Trail (Panther Segment)

The Marsters Segment of the North Umpqua Trail is generally near the river, but at times is some distance above it. From the west, the grade climbs high above the river to a rock bluff area. Use caution through this very steep side slope . Views of the river and old growth groves compliment this trail way. The 60-foot bridge at Deception Creek offers a view up and down stream to the confluence of Deception Creek and the North Umpqua River. The trail also features the Weaping Rocks Spawning Grounds. Caution: Because of the very dangerous highway bridge crossing, it is not recommended that equestrians travel east from this trailhead, but instead use the Illahee Flat Trailhead and Trail to access the North Umpqua Trail eastward. All other users should also be cautious using this crossing. The highway bridge has a very narrow walkway confined by the high speed travel way and bridge railing, and has poor visibility in either direction. This segment can be muddy in some areas during the wet seasons. Horse and mountain bike use is discouraged at those times.
