Formerly the First Baptist Church, 1888. The museum displays the history and culture of Independence and surrounding communities. Located in the Independence National Historic District. The mission of the Heritage Museum is to preserve and display the history and culture of the river town of Independence and Polk County through collections of artifacts, documents, and photographs and to make them available to the public by means of tours, programming and access to files and to work with other historical groups and community organizations.
