“Raucous beer-oriented bar!”
The Sinking Ship was founded on the vision of owners Andrew Hamaker and Damon Lyden to create a friendly, fun atmosphere, where patrons can enjoy affordable food, generous drink specials and good company. That vision was realized with a lot of hard work and the support of our friends, family and neighbors. We look forward to becoming your favorite neighborhood pub for many years to come. Cheers! One of the biggest questions we've gotten since the idea for this bar & restaurant began is, "How did you come up with your name?". The Sinking Ship was named after a song composed by the late Sgt. Jacob "Jackie" Blaylock, an OIF Veteran who passed away on December 9th, 2007. Jackie & Damon served in Iraq together and became the best of friends when Damon took the fragile lad under his wing. The two shared a passion for whiskey and punk rock. When you come into the bar, you'll see a life-sized artist rendered painting of Jackie waving hi to you all. Keep rockin' in the after life, Jackie! Cheers! Andy Hamaker has been an Indianpolis resident for most of his life & Damon Lyden comes to us by way of Dayton, Ohio. The two often joke about how the concept for The Sinking Ship began with a text message. They're not kidding. One is a little bit punk rock & the other is a whole lot of business, but this pair makes the perfect team. It's been well over a year since that text message was sent, and they're finally realizing their dream. This is their first business venture together and it has taken a whole lot of work and a tremendous amount of hours to make it happen. Look up "dedication" or "passion" in the dictionary. We're pretty sure their pictures are there.
