“Places in Ithaca, NY”
The oldest library building at Cornell, Uris Library is a popular campus destination. The Olin and Uris Libraries collection is distributed across the two buildings, and includes materials on the humanities and social sciences. Uris also houses some science materials. The study spaces in Uris are open 24 hours a day during most of the academic year from Sunday through Thursday. Uris also houses three computer labs, one of which is used for the many library instruction sessions and workshops held throughout the year. Uris is also home to the Andrew Dickson White Library, which was built to hold the 30,000 books that formed the personal collection of Cornell’s first president, Andrew Dickson White, which he donated when the building opened in 1891. This beautiful “library within a library” contains holdings about books and publishing, and its reading room is filled with art and memorabilia from White’s diplomatic career. Olin and Uris Libraries support the teaching, learning and research needs of the Cornell community by offering access to both print and electronic materials. Librarians provide an array of user services, including research help and consultations, workshops and course-related instuction, and a variety of computing and printing options. The combined collection of Olin and Uris libraries is close to 2 million volumes.
