Since 1996, the Iron Monkey has been providing a quality beer selection, delicious cuisine, and a lively atmosphere to Jersey City’s downtown Financial District. Here at the Iron Monkey, we’ve been providing a quality beer selection, delicious cuisine, and a lively atmosphere to Jersey City’s downtown Financial District since 1996. The Iron Monkey is the brainchild of owner Steve McIntyre, who conjured up the idea on a spiritual trip to China ten years earlier. While in meditation, McIntyre was overcome with the desire to return to the United States, and open a neighborhood restaurant and bar, where Jersey City’s community could gather to enjoy good food, good drinks, and good conversation. McIntyre was certain this restaurant would be his fate, and this idea was a direct message from God. But, when he awoke from his heavy meditation, he realized that he was not praying to God, but rather a six-foot tall iron statue of a monkey. And so, the Iron Monkey was born.
