“Featured in "The Blues Brothers"”

This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. Joliet Correctional Center (colloquially known as Joliet Prison) was a prison in Joliet, Illinois, United States from 1858 to 2002. It is featured in the motion picture The Blues Brothers as the prison from which Jake Blues is released at the beginning of the movie. It is also the location for the first season of Fox Network's Prison Break television show and the movie Let's Go to Prison. Joliet Correctional Center closed as a holding prison in 2002. Budget cuts and the obsolete and dangerous nature of the buildings were the cited reasons. All inmates and most staff were transferred to Stateville Correctional Center.

Neat to be this close to a former prison. There is a small park next to it where you can read some info on it and the former women's prison across the street. Interesting to know that the rock for it was all quarried nearby and the prisoners built the whole thing!
For more info on it, make a stop at the Joliet Museum just down the road a couple miles, they have a great display on the 3 prison's in the area!!
The only that would make this better, would be having tours of it, as it is now, it's just rotting away!

Great place for some Blues Brothers photos, and the creepiness of the place makes it kind of neat. It was raining when I visited, so I didn't have a chance to explore much. Just a quick drive out of Joliet, so if you're in the area you should absolutely stop by. Not every day you get this close to an old prison.

Very cool and had lots of info on the prison, the warden, and changes made to the prison over the years. Also all the movies and shows it has been in. Kind of creepy but awesome!!

There's a museum a few miles down the road that has loads of information about this 19th century prison, though the prison itself is closed indefinitely. Some urban explorers sneak in from time to time, but it is EXTREMELY dangerous to do that, so don't!
