“A treat in Michigan smuggled from Italy”
A treat in Michigan smuggled out of Italy. A family owned restaurant, Bimbo's serves pizza and sandwiches in Downtown Kalamazoo. On December 19th 1959, Robert & Jennie Smilanich opened Bimbo’s Pizza at its present location. Robert and Jennie were from Chisholm, Minnesota, where they retired in 1972. Their son Ron & his wife, Sue, now operate Bimbo’s Pizza. Ron & Sue’s son, Matthew, and his wife, Gayle, are going to be the third generation to operate Bimbo’s Pizza. In 2001, Ron & Matthew began a historical renovation of their building and business to reflect the architecture of the 1880’s. Some renovations are still being completed, while Bimbo’s operation and recipe continue to stay the same as we celebrate 53 years.
