“Visit ancient Hawaiian lands!”
He’eia State Park is located on the windward side of O'ahu, in Kane'ohe, and 34 miles from Honolulu. He’eia is one of eleven ahupua’a within the district of Ko’olaupoko. An ahupua'a, is an ancient Hawaiian land division. The moku (district) of Ko‘olaupoko extended from Ka‘oio Ridge on the north end of Kualoa, to Kuli‘ou‘ou Ridge on the south end at Maunalua Bay. It included the ahupua‘a of Kualoa, Hakipu‘u, Waikane, Waiahole, Ka‘alaea, Waihe‘e, Kahalu‘u, He‘eia, Kane‘ohe, Kailua and Waimanalo. An ahupua'a includes lands from the mountains to the sea (mauka-makai), encompassing all of the resource zones needed for subsistence. This 18 acre park has lots of cultural value.
