“1965 Space Acorn”
A UFO allegedly crashed in Kecksburg in 1965, and the town proudly displays a replica that was left there by a TV show. Directions:PA Turnpike exit 91 (Uniontown/Ligonier/Hwy 31/711). Turn right onto Hwy 31 for 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Clay Pike for six miles to Kecksburg. Cross Hwy 982, then turn right onto Water St. Acorn is on the hill to the left. Gift shop is in the long "social hall" to the right; enter at the door marked "Bar" and ring the bell to be let in.
My husband and I had never heard of this thing and stopped for a fun photo op. After some googling, we ended up falling down a rabbit hole reading about the conspiracy theories surrounding this thing. Very interesting stuff!!!
Fun Detour off main highway. Not much to see besides the Acorn. Missed the annual festival, starts July 27-29

A fun stop. We spent a few minutes taking photos.
There were ground wasps flying about while we were there, so you should take caution in approaching the Acorn.
There's a giftshop/museum inside the VFW across the street from the acorn. I don't know the hours but it was bumping at 11am on a Monday.
Not really an exciting stop, but we had a good time getting there. I wish there was a plaque explaining the story or something. I would not recommend going out of your way for this, but if you are in the area go check it out.
It was a cute little hop out if the car photo op! Nothi g much else around but nice to stretch our legs.
Stopped off to see this and happened upon the kecksburg UFO festival!
