Our Take

It’s a really beautiful place particularly in the spring when there are lots of flowers blooming. The park is also amazingly huge… you can spend a full day here and still not get to walk all of the trails. The trails connect various gardens with different themes, but the conservatory is by far the highlight. It’s an indoor garden paradise filled with tropical plants that you obviously won’t find anywhere else in Pennsylvania. There’s also a water garden with ten-foot lily pads and other intriguing aquatic plants.

“the world’s premier horticultural showplace”

You MUST visit the East Conservatory Plaza and Green Wall. Designed by landscape architect Kim Wilkie, the East Conservatory Plaza opened in 2010. Curved steps mask the long, glass-roofed Green Wall, which houses 17 bathrooms hidden within a 4,072 square foot Green Wall with 25 species of ferns. When visiting Longwood Gardens, you are immersed not only in the breathtaking surroundings, but in the rich history as well. The traditions and elegance of the gardens have evolved over time, and resulted in the magnificence we have today. Step back in time and learn about the important cultural events and their contribution to today’s Longwood Gardens. Longwood Gardens consists of over 1,077 acres (4.2 km²) of gardens, woodlands, and meadows in Kennett Square,Pennsylvania, United States in the Brandywine Creek Valley. It is one of the premier botanical gardens in the United States and is open to visitors year-round to enjoy exotic plants and horticulture (both indoor and outdoor), events and performances, seasonal and themed attractions, as well as take part in educational lectures, courses and workshops.

Longwood Gardens is consistently an excellent place to visit. The first time I went was for the orchid show in the spring, amazing! We visited again on Christmas Even when my son was a baby, while it was BEAUTIFUL, it was way too crowded and I wouldn't recommend taking kids when its that busy. There is a great kids area though, definitely take you r kids, just not on Christmas eve, haha. I have been there over 4 times and still didn't see everything.

We love visiting Longwood Gardens. My now one year old loves the children's garden in the conservatory, my husband enjoys the tree houses, and I look forward to all the seasonal changes in the gardens. A great experience all around.

I have visited multiple times and it is always worth the trip. There are multiple gardens based on varying themes and it is a great way to spend the day. There are often special programs (eg Nightscape 2015) and it's worth the extra money for admission. From the conservatory to the Italian Water Garden to the meadow walk, the whole place is just beautiful. Don't miss it!

Consistently ranked one of the best gardens in America, Longwood Gardens are a must-see for any true conservatory lover. My favorite part? The crazy curved-wall of bathrooms. They've even been nominated for 2014 restroom of the year!

Don’t miss the bell tower or the grotto. Stay after dark when there are fountain shows with music.

The children’s garden is fantastic (inside the conservatory) and there are often self-scavenger hunts to mark off different features throughout the gardens.

We found this place using the road tripper app. When we came here, we had a fantastic time. We came here during the summer month, so make sure you have comfortable shoes it's a big place to explore.

Stopped by today and even though the hours are listed as open, it was closed. Not sure why.

Absolutely a must! I spent 3 hours meandering about the gardens and finished with an amazing lighted fountain performance. Book your tickets ahead of time and eat at the Beer Garden within the grounds. Best experience!
