“Lovely, warm, and friendly surroundings”
We offer an innovative mix of classic American favorites and multi-ethnic fare freshly prepared and served in warm, friendly surroundings. Carolina House is the longest-running independently owned restaurant in Columbia County. It was originally created by a successful New York City restaurateur in 1983 and was purchased by local businessman, Michael J. Liptak, in 1988. Now, over twenty years later, Michael’s three daughters proudly own and operate the establishment.“Ever since we were children, the restaurant dominated our lives. It is something that is such a tradition in our family.” From administrative duties to busing tables, from cooking to bartending, and waiting on guests, the three women have experienced the restaurant business from all angles.Shortly after Michael passed away in 2004, the restaurant was temporarily closed, but the friends they made and their desire to keep their father’s passion alive brought them back. With a fresh menu that reconciles Carolina House originals with new innovative selections, and stylistic changes that enhance the cozy yet upscale surroundings, Carolina House was reopened in June 2006.The three daughters, known as the “three Liptak sisters,” by friends and locals, continue to work collaboratively to promote and expand this legendary restaurant, splitting their time between managerial duties and administrative work. They oversee the day-to-day operations and concede, "While it takes three of us to fill our dad's shoes, we're deeply committed to seeing the business go on. We're also very grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years."
