“one of the largest arboretums in the us”
The Holden Arboretum is one of the largest arboretums and botanical gardens in the United States, with over 3,600 acres (1 456 ha), 600 acres (243 ha) of which are devoted to collections and gardens. Diverse natural areas and ecologically sensitive habitats make up the rest of the holdings. The Arboretum's collection includes 9,400 different kinds of woody plants, representing 79 plant families. The Arboretum is named for Albert Fairchild Holden, a mining engineer and executive, who had considered making Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum his beneficiary.
Holden is open daily, 9am - 5pm
Awesome stop for us and our dog! Dogs can do almost everything, the gardens are beautiful and the staff is so kind.
Beautiful place. The tower was awesome. Getting to the top and seeing the view was worth it. The suspended bridges were fun too
The Judith and Maynard H. Murch Canopy Walk at Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, Ohio features a 500 ft. long elevated walkway suspended 65 ft. above the forest floor. It gives visitors a truly unique perspective of the forest and the animals that live among the trees.
And as an added bonus, there’s an observation tower on site that takes you up even further up—so much further that you end up above the trees.
