“monument made from fossils from every state!”
“Begun in 1942, the 50-foot-tall Monument to the States lies in downtown Kissimmee and consists of more than 1,500 fossils and rocks from every state, as well as more than 20 countries.”
I've live in Kissimmee for 14 years already and this weekend I actually got to play tourist and look at the monument close up... I always drive around there and I've stopped at lake front but I never got to actually look at all of the monuments! It was awesome! And the new changes that are being made are amazing! :)
I didn’t even know this place existed until I discovered the RoadTrippers app. I have lived in Central Fl. for about 24 years now & was looking for a little day trip adventure to do with my twin 5 year olds. I decided on this which is just less than an hour away for us. So we talked about how many states there are in the US, what state we live in & have visited on the drive there. Then, we arrived after a short walk from the Civic Center parking area & they thought it was cool b/c of it’s height & unique appearance. It was something different to do. We took the time to find particular places, observe difference in rocks/fossils from different place & read what it had inscribed. Great photo opportunities as well! What makes it even better is the location is right off the lake & park. So we went exploring, played at the playground, walked along the lake, checked out the “lighthouse,” & got lunch.
I wouldn't drive out of my way for this, but if you are in the area it is neat and free. It is connected to a city park that has trails perfect for skating, biking, and walking along the water front, a playground, and field area for sports, and even a dock to walk down. Close to downtown Kissimmee where you can wonder the small downtown area and look at the murals and shops.
Super neat photo opportunity. Right at the waterfront so it's beautiful to walk around and free!
