“A tribute to a legendary radio station”
Paying homage to the WREN radio station of Topeka, the giant Wren statue is now more of a local tourist attraction. Early photos of WREN show real Wrens fluttering about, so when the station closed and the property changed hands people came to action to make sure the giant wren had a home. It's home isn't impressive, but it's still a great photo op.
It was in an odd location which made it easy to miss. Not as big as anticipated. Take the time to go to the Brown v Board of Education Historic Site right near there instead!
Omg so small and unassuming. Not worth a stop. I get wrens are naturally small. But why have this main picture of it looking like it’s work a couple turns.
Fun little spot with a big bird.
Easy to find and there were a few parking spots nearby if you don’t mind walking a little ways. Not sure why people are complaining about the location — it’s an open space near an intersection, pretty typical of a statue :) Love the idea behind the statue! My only concern is that she’s due for another coat of paint soon. Other than that, a cute quick stop!
World's Largest Wren was not nearly as big as we anticipated. We have seen, "World's Largest" things across the country, and this was one of our least favorites. There isn't really a place to pull off, so we just had to take pics from our vehicle. We did enjoy the Brown V Board of Education National Historic Site nearby that is free, but they do accept donations. Our GPS did take us right to it, but had we not been looking, we might have missed it. I wouldn't recommend adding this to the list of things to do/see, but if you happened to come upon it you might want to get a pic or two.
Pretty easy to find but there isn't really anywhere to stop and take photos. We managed to drive around it until I got a good shot. Awkward spot but a great addition to our list of 'big things' seen.
The directions provided using the link here did not get us there. We found it accidentally anyway. Cute!
