“Huge drain hole at Lake Berryessa Monticello dam”
Known as "The Glory Hole" this strange feature is an open bell-mouth spillway, 72 feet in diameter. It's basically a big drain like you would have in your sink. For obvious reasons, swimming near the glory hole is both prohibited and stupid. There are buoys strung across the lake to discourage boaters and swimmers from approaching the glory hole and the dam. Furthermore, the glory hole is well fenced off from the land.
The pin shows the exact location of the hole, right by Monticello Dam along highway 128. In 1997, a UC Davis graduate student was pulled into the glory hole while swimming and drowned.
TL;DR Do not swim near the Glory Hole.
the Glory Hole lives again. It is now 2 feet below the top, before it spills into the abyss of the Glory Hole. California has rid the drought with all this rain in January 2017. Yahoo!!
It was just inches from working but was still really cool.
It is a man made lake. If there is no water in the lake the only thing you will se is a concrete cylinder hole. If you passing by make a stop and hop there will be water in the lake. But don't take the long way around just to wispy this place.
Didn't get to see glory hole in action but the drive to lake was nice due to luscious green mountains.
