“a unique rock island formed by erosion”

LOCATED ON PRIVATE PROPERTY - For information purposes only. Being located at the shores of Lake Huron, near Michigan, most people don’t even know this place exists. Turnip rock is one of the most impressive places you could ever visit. Turnip Rock was eroded by water over thousands of years, giving it this unique shape. What is even more interesting is that on top of it there is rich vegetation and even some big trees. You can get to the rock only by boat or kayak. In the winter time most of the lake is frozen. "The Pointe Aux Barques (PAB) trail is our most popular.  This trail follows along the shallow, mostly undeveloped shore to some of the most majestic rock formations in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.  Along the way you will see may bird species and possibly an eagle or two.  Once at PAB you will see rock cliffs, sea caves and Turnip Rock.  This trip can be done in three hours if you hurry.  If you want to take it slow and relaxed you will have to rent for the day. Tandem kayak are not allowed to Turnip Rock.  They are only allowed on the Broken Rocks trail."

Turnip Rock, and the surrounding land, is all private property. The rocks, cliffs and beaches are fragile and subject to catastrophic erosion with the increased traffic. Please be respectful of this natural geologic wonder.

This was a wasted trip. Only road access was through a private golf course.

Kayaking to Turnip rock was a blast. The majority of the trip was smooth sailing, but once we rounded the point and reached the rock the waves really kicked up.

Kayak port Austin staff are wonderful and you can rental single kayaks and SUP's.

You cannot/shouldn't try to canoe or tandem kayak to the rock, as it is very shallow in spots.

The only way to get to this beautiful rock formation is by kayaking there. Took us 2 hours to get there but it was sooo worth it! Perfect summer time adventure in Michigan!

I drove over 6 hours to find the whole place is private and there is no possible way they will let you see it, the only other way is by boat but with my luck they weren't renting because the lake was too windy. All I wanted is to take a few pictures and appreciate unique places in Michigan.
