“learn about Florida's cowboy heritage”

At Lake Kissimmee State Park, Florida's cowboy heritage comes alive with living history demonstrations of the early Florida "cow hunters" in an 1876-era cow camp. White-tailed deer, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, turkeys, and bobcats have been seen in the park, located on the shores of lakes Kissimmee, Tiger, and Rosalie. Visitors enjoy boating, canoeing, and fishing in the picturesque lakes. Nature students can hike over 13 miles of trails to observe and study the abundant plant and animal life. Six miles of trails are open to equestrians. A large, shaded picnic area with pavilions is available. The park has full-facility campsites, as well as a primitive camping facility. The youth camping area can accommodate up to 50 people. The dark skies make stargazing a popular nighttime activity for campers. Located off State Road 60 15 miles east of Lake Wales.

We camped at Lake Kissimmee State Park 1/29-2/2 (4 nights) in site 008. Vegetation between spots left you feeling private enough to enjoy the park. Camp hosts were all super friendly and nice. Hiked one of the trails to the Lake. Beautiful oak trees and moss but not much shade. Be mindful of gators since you are by the lake - there are signs posted.

Previous reviews complained of the airboats on the lake. We were there mid-week so didn't find it bad. Probably wouldn't stay there on a busy weekend or holiday.

We were able to connect to internet with MiFi Hotspot. Cell coverage only if walked out to main entrance.

Stayed here on 2/27th-28th, nice spacing between campsites with plenty of shade and foliage between campsites. Very clean restrooms with laundry machines. The camp host were very friendly and informative about the area, There are a ton of hiking trails and the road leading into and the campground circles make for excellent walking. We paddle out to the lake area but stayed back in the coves and was excellent for bird watching and even saw a gator from a distance. Nice boat ramp and docking facilities. Campground was very quite since it is out in the middle of nowhere.

I agree with all the positive things said by other reviewers, but want to add that the park is currently without a vendor to operate the marina store. That means no rentals of watercraft. The only way to get out on the water is if you bring your own means of doing so. Obviously, they don't know when a new vendor will take over. We took a two-hour hike on part of the North Loop Trail that was as beautiful, well-maintained and unspoiled as any hike I've done in Florida. Our site was lovely, as are the others. Loads of trees; very good spacing. Electric/water and a Dump station. Big, spotless public bathrooms. Used my on-board we boost to get a signal good enough for internet and good phone calls. The low rate reflects Florida resident plus senior discount. Put those two together and the Florida state parks are the best bang for the buck I know!

Beautiful park with spacious wooded sites and clean bathrooms. Great hiking with a lot of options for walks. The downside - constant buzzing from airboats starting early in the morning and going until after dark. Kayaks are available for rent from camp store. The single ones have no seats tho - had to just sit in bottom on the boat. Once I got out on the lake, I kept getting buzzed by airboats, I pretty quickly headed back to park. Enjoyed stargazing at the tower by the marina.

What an amazing campground - this is a classic Florida State Park experience.

It's way off the beaten path, but yet still close to metro Orlando to be accessible. From the ranger check-in station, it's a 3 mile drive to the campground. Sites are very well spaced, well shaded, lots of vegetation and many very private feeling (Loop 1 better than Loop 2 in our opinion).

Lots of hiking and wildlife to be had, and lots of tranquilness. Well maintained, amazing staff & volunteers - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Just enough signal on AT&T and Verizon to stay connected, but not enough to be distracted from being out in nature.

First time staying overnight at this park and we absolutely loved it! Most all campsites are spaced out well enough to give you privacy. Wonderful foliage and oak and pine trees provide shade and privacy between sites. Rangers are super friendly and helpful. Restrooms are very clean. We saw an abundance of wildlife throughout the park and enjoyed hiking and geocaching.

Very pretty old Florida setting with big oak trees and Spanish moss, palmetto understory. Most sites are private such as 44, some wide open to neighbor such as 42. Lots of mosquitos even in the dry winter season. Also lots of caterpillars devouring oak leaves above my RV creating a "rain" of leaf debris and caterpillar poop. So not nice to sit out, and most folks did not. Verizon cell 1 bar and slow, sometimes no service. 20-30-50 amp electric but 108 volts during 88 degree afternoons. Water pressure and quality was fine. Dump station easy to use. Air boat noise at times from nearby boat launch and from the lake itself. Isolated location down winding roads, far from services and sights. Example: 2.6 miles to campground from gate on a bumpy but paved 15mph road. Airboats and gators would make kayaking unpleasant, and there is a fairly long canal to open lake. Most campers were quiet. Roads are tight with turns and trees for campers over 35'. 30 minutes to Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, 50 minutes to Polk County History Center in Bartow. Might stay again, but would prefer a more central location in Polk County such as Bartow or Winter Haven.
