“The Desert Experience- Like Nothing Else!”

Saddleback Butte, elevation 3,651 feet, is a granite mountaintop that towers some thousand feet above the broad alluvial bottom land of the Antelope Valley. The park, created in 1960 to protect the butte, contains numerous hiking trails including one for equestrian use. The park also provides excellent stargazing opportunities. The state park surrounding Saddleback Butte was created in 1960 to protect the butte (one of many similar land features in the Antelope Valley) and examples of native Joshua Tree woodlands and other plants and animals that were once common throughout this high desert area.

Great hike from the campground to the top. Easy to follow trail and fun once you get to the rocks. Loose gravel on start for the way down, so take it slow, but not that difficult. Great camp sites with nice sunshade on the sunset sides of the spots. Clean bathrooms, no showers.

This campground is pretty close to a road so you get some car noise. It's pretty well maintained, even though half of it is closed off and not kept up.

In 4 days there were only 2 other campers. People traveling and saving money. That's what this campground is good for. One or two nights to save on hotel costs.

Clean flush toilets and sinks. Dump station for RV. Nice hiking trail up a close mountain. Hike is about 2 miles. Good cell service. Covered picnic table, fire ring and grill at each site.

I love the desert and for people who are quiet, clean and patient there is tons of animal life here.
People complaining about it being partially closed but that's because there aren't that many people and, as a former campground host, I can say you want to keep things at the minimum because people are incredibly messy and leave garbage behind and around the site and don't get me started on how they leave the bathrooms... So, Why open the entire campground if there are, like, 3 people here right now?

We were driving from the southern campsite at Joshua tree park to Paso Robles so this was a convenient place to stop for the night. It was not the most exciting or beautiful place we have camped but it served our purpose nicely.

This park was clean with bathrooms with running water but no showers, easy to get to with a camp host and a ranger. There was a dump station which we did not use and a short hiking trail to the top of the butte. It’s not the type of place you would want to stay long at but quite adequate for a night or 2 to break up a long drive.

Stayed here on March 3, 2020. It was eerily deserted, only one other person here. I dropped a check in the slot ($18) for one night, it was never cashed. A ranger came by in the morning to clean the bathroom.

There is restrooms and a RV dump station.
There is slots that are with covered picnic area. There is places for tents to pop up to stay as.
Tmobile cell coverage is about 1 to 2 bars of service
Other wise for $20.00 a night worth it, catch thought can only be here for 14 days and then you got to leave for a whole year.
