The Demuth Museum

Demuth Museum is a museum of paintings by Charles Demuth (1883–1935) located in his former studio and home. The museum offers a rotating view of a permanent collection which includes 27 Charles Demuth originals as well as artists and works that present a Demuth connection in the areas of theme, technique and epoch. Two recent exhibitions have featured Demuth contemporaries Alfred H. Maurer and Lyonel Feininger. In addition to 10,000 annual visitors, the museum is regarded as an education center for students and scholars who access the archives and library for research purposes. The Demuth Museum is dedicated to developing awareness, understanding and appreciation of the artwork and legacy of Charles Demuth, renowned American modernist painter, and his family's contributions to the Lancaster community. The Demuth Museum strives to engage and inspire a diverse range of audiences by pursuing an innovative program of exhibitions, education, scholarship and collections activities. National in scope, while reflecting the distinctive character of the Lancaster region, the Demuth Museum explores the compelling work and legacy of Charles Demuth.
