“Complete and authentic army post”
Fort Larned National Historic Site is home to the Guardians of the Santa Fe Trail. Discover a complete and authentic army post from the 1860s -1870s. This well-preserved fort on the Santa Fe Trail shares a tumultuous history of the Indian Wars era. The sandstone constructed buildings sheltered troops who were known as the Guardians of the Santa Fe Trail.
We stayed the night on Larned and stopped here on our way our of town. We could have stayed longer but wanted to get going.
The rangers on staff were very informative and fun.
This is the 3rd fort for us and the 2nd on the Santa Fe Trail. The kids are really piecing US history together by visiting the Historical Sites and all the parks in the NP system.
Plan for an hour to an hour and a half.
This place was pretty cool. We stopped on our way home from Dodge City! I would recommend visiting during the summer months.
