We had a quiet night at Hilltop on the 4th of July, on our way from Lake Powell to the Eastern Sierra. Nice host, clean & large sites with level parking, picnic table, grill, fire pit and another level spot away from the road for a tent. Our site was peaceful and private; some (13, 18, 23 and others on the North side) also have beautiful views. No water; simple outhouses, dumpster. Wonderful spot above the summer heat at 8,500 ft elevation.

Hilltop is a really well taken care of campground.

It’s only 45 minutes from the Las Vegas strip, but feels like a different world. I believe it’s at around 8500 ft of elevation and because of that can be around 35° cooler than Vegas.

The campground has mostly level parking spots that back into each campsite. Each site also has a specific tent area that is almost perfectly flat along with a concrete area for the fire pit and picnic table. There’s plenty of shade and green trees you won’t find in the desert valley. I heard it used to have full showers and bathrooms, but now it’s has no showers and outhouse style bathrooms with no running water. I will however say the bathrooms are very clean, well stocked with toilet paper and are cleaned daily around 11AM. My suggestion is to bring a pop up shower since there’s plenty of flat space on each site.

As for cell service… I did get 2 bars of 4G LTE on T-Mobile and no service on my Tesla which I believe uses AT&T.

There’s also plenty of hiking in the area and even a restaurant/bar called The Mount Charleston Lodge which offers scenic views along with live music and plenty of outdoor patio space.

If you’re looking to escape the Vegas heat, this campground is a perfect getaway into nature.

I did take a star off for noise as you do occasionally here a loud motorcycle or truck pass by on the road and the neighbors a few spots away played their music too loud, but did turn it down by 10 which is quiet time so overall the place was great and plan to head back often.

Newly renovated campground with new concrete pads, retaining walls and asphalt driveways. No water, no showers, no RV dump. Vault toilets. During the week it is especially peaceful here. Very popular on weekends, The signage says no trailers over 25 ft and they mean it, There are some tight switchbacks to get up to the hilltop and many sites have short driveways. Big rigs would not like it here. We have a small trailer and we would probably fit into about half the sites. Each site has a picnic table, fire pit and tent pad. Very nice.

1st time to this location and man are we glad we found this location. Absolutely amazing views of the valley floor and all the surrounding mountains. Temps were 20 degrees cooler than in vegas. The newly paved roads are very nice and they keep the campgrounds and restrooms very clean. Make sure when finding a site look at the site post if it says double on it or it has 2 picnic tables it is a double site and will $$$ you more $19 vs $45 for a double just an FYI.

The campground may have been renovated in 2020 and my impression is they did a great job. The majority of sites are for camping but there are a small handful that can handle an RV with 25ft max with two spots that can handle a 30ft. No bigger for sure as the drive into the campground has very tight curves though well paved.

There are bathrooms which appear to be new as well.

Plenty of trees for good shade and the spots are decently spaced apart. Firepit, grill, bench and level area for pitching a tent is available at all sites.

Overall a great spot to dry camp and may be the nicest on Mt Charleston (as of this review).

Will surely come back when in the area.
