“World Famous Sign”
The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is a Las Vegas landmark funded in May 1959 and erected soon after by Western Neon. The sign was designed by Betty Willis at the request of Ted Rogich, a local salesman, who sold it to Clark County, Nevada. The sign is located in the median at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, north of the historic stone pillars of the old McCarran Airport on the east side, and across from the Bali Hai Golf Club and the (closed) Klondike Hotel & Casino on the west side.
Some consider the sign to be the official southern end of the Las Vegas Strip. The sign, like most of the Strip, sits in the town of Paradise and is located roughly 4 miles south of the actual city limits of Las Vegas. (Such distinctions are usually ignored by both locals and tourists, who refer to the entire metro area as "Las Vegas".)
If you're nearby, you just have to have your photo in front of the iconic sign! There's a parking lot in the median on the south bound lane only.
The stop here made the .99 key chains souvenirs we got look cool.
do it in the morning at around 11 than the light is really neat. Can be a long line sometimes but you can also just do your shot from a side angle
During the day there's a long line to take pics in front of the sign. Be prepared. Great photo op though!
Wait lines can be long if you want good picture with the full sign. If you don't have the time, you can step off to the side and take a picture, but you will have others in the background.
Nice stop for photos. Several other visitors waited their turn in the short quick line for their turn on the mound in front of the sign. Others came up behind us and couldn't be bothered to wait their turn. So - oh well, they got us in their photos.
For RV'ers there are 3 to 4 RV/BUS spots. Easy in and out.
A must do!!!!
It was really crowded, but worth the shot!
