The park includes great examples of exposed Precambrian to Late Mesozoic hogback, monolithic and spire formations from the Permian, Pennsylvanian and Cretaceous age. Carpenter Peak's exposed granite is from Precambrian era.
Very disappointed after driving an hour only to get there and find out that dogs are banned from the park.
Beautiful place, with some gorgeous photo op areas. There's a great overlook right by the parking lot to see the red rock formations both north and south. If you take the hiking trails out into the park you'll find lots of other formations and wildlife as well as an old homestead. My favorite park near the Denver area for gorgeous views and photos.
Couple tips: Be sure to brink bug spray, as mosquitoes can be intense on one (or more) of the hiking trails as it nears the creek. It's $7 for a day pass (as of the date I wrote this) and they don't take credit cards, so be sure to have cash on hand for the entrance fee.
a truly awe inspiring place. Plan to hike one of trails to take in nature at its best.
Went on a Wednesday morning in June and it was perfect. Beautiful park, great trails and friendly visitors center. Very worth it.
