“One of five incredible local museums”
The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA) is a community art museum founded in 1976. SAMA successfully operates the nation’s longest-running museum satellite system with five museum facilities in the central and southwestern Pennsylvania cities of Altoona, Bedford, Johnstown, Ligonier and Loretto. The Museum maintains a permanent collection of more than 4,500 works by local, regional, national and international artists. SAMA’s five museums offer award-winning education programs, special events, and approximately three dozen exhibitions annually. Be sure to visit our newest museum in Bedford's historic Anderson House - grand opening preview on May 3! The Loretto Museum, located on the campus of Saint Francis University, opened its doors in June of 1976. The Museum serves as headquarters to the complex of four SAMA facilities and is a repository for the permanent collection. Exhibitions are developed from national collections, as well as from SAMA’s permanent collection.
