“known as a filming location for a large number of movies”
Bronson Canyon, or Bronson Caves, is a section of Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Due to its remote appearance, but easily accessibility it is a popular filming location for films and TV shows. Bronson Canyon is located in the southwest section of Griffith Park and is thus easily accessible from Hollywood. From Franklin Avenue, one can go north on Canyon Drive until the road ends for vehicular traffic at the parking lot for "Camp Hollywoodland". At the right (east) side of the road is a small concrete bridge painted red. One can cross the bridge and walk around the vehicle barrier, and follow the unpaved road, keeping left, for the short walk into Bronson Canyon.
It's not a very intense hike or anything, it's only worth a visit if you're into exploring the caves. It's a super prolific filming location, and if you visit, you get to say that you went into the real-life Batcave!
Love everything about this website! Living in LA, it's always a gem to look up on here about parking and I've always been a fan of maps. I just wanted to share our own experience with our day spent at the Bronson Cave. (aka Batcave) :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaCqmGfH3KA
If you like finding iconic movie locations, this one is right up there with the best, plus it's centrally located and easy to find. Just a short walk up a "fire road" from a public park, you are at the scene of the final reunion between Ethan Edwards and niece Debbie's at the cave entrance in "The Searchers", and TV's bat cave. (among others).
I visited once time and there was a closed set for a TV episode being filmed in the cave. Since filming was inside the cave, a very nice security guard walked me around the area outside the cave entrances. Another day I visited and had the entire place to my self. I was able to walk the cave tunnels and really explore the location. The Hollywood sign is visible above a small rise at the location and a great panoramic photo-op is your reward for the steep walk up that rise.
