“Walk through Hollywood history!”
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is an internationally-recognized Hollywood icon. With about 24 induction ceremonies annually broadcast around the world, the constant reinforcement provided to the public has made the Walk of Fame a top visitor attraction. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is undoubtedly one of the most successful marketing ideas ever produced. Today, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce continues to add stars to the Walk of Fame as the representative of the City of Los Angeles. An average of two stars are added to the Walk on a monthly basis. The Walk is a tribute to all of those who worked so hard to develop the concept and to maintain this world-class tourist attraction.
It's so incredibly full of tourists, but towards the end (where the older stars are) the crowds taper off and you can see the REALLY cool stars-- like Lucille Ball and Bob Hope.
This is such a weird place. It goes into all kinds of unexpected territory-- as I recall, Johnny Carson's star is now outside a strip joint (although from all appearances, a pretty high class one). It's a monument committed to the idea that you can freeze some parts of Hollywood greatness and they'll be there forever, but Hollywood is not a town where "forever" means anything.
I love Hollywierd! Great place to people watch. Check out my video and subscribe to my Youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYKuqO21kQY
You sorta have to go here I guess. I mean, I love movies, but it's like really crowded and some of the walk is kinda gross. They put popular and more recent stars near the Chinese theatre and Kodak theatre. Some of the street performers are fun and nice, but some are pretty annoying.
I was 16 years old and staying in the Roosevelt, and didn't even know I was walking here until I looked down and saw a star. I must've been at the "older stars" section as Anna said, cause I didn't notice bunch of people. I don't watch many movies, but if you do, I guess you'd like this place?
Real disappointment 😖. In disrepair, overpowering smell of urine in most places, strip joints and bong shops. Full of homeless drug addicts following you. Awful
The Chinese Theater is cool for 3 minutes as you're walking around trying to fit your hands over your fav celebs, picturing the 3,522 other people that put their hands there in the last several hours. BUT overall, overrated, super run-down.. just filled with dirty cheap costumed actors trying to make a buck (not knockin, just talkin). You find yourself walking 2 blocks before you find a star with someone you actually know or at least care to take a picture.. and then you take a picture. Yay.. you made it. Anyway, I did a TMZ tour (for a friend) and a block into a side street off the walk of fame.. there was a shooting. Which by the way.. the driver kept driving towards the active shooter when we all yelled for him to stop and go back.. it was traumatizing for 24 hours. But.. beats to the point; super run-down and not glamorous at all.
This is something you just have to check off of your bucket list. It's nothing glamorous but one of those things you just want to be able to say that you've seen. Every few steps someone will try to sell you a tour. My kids quickly learned to say no loudly and firmly so that we would be left alone. We had fun seeing the names that we recognized. Be forewarned there is a lingering urine smell in several areas. I prepared my kids ahead of time by letting them know that it could be a little overwhelming (lots of tourists), sad (lots of homeless) and stinky (see above). All in all, they were glad that we went and overall they enjoyed it. However, we don't feel the need to visit again.
Definitely not what I expected. The stars are dirty, some upside down, sideways, cracked, pieces missing, duplicates. You can take 5 steps without being harassed be tour agencies. It's a great thing to do just to say you've done it, but it's surely not glamorous.
It's an interesting place for sure. Lots of different things/people to see. Expect crowds and just enjoy it while you are in it. Don't be in a rush or you will just get angry and frustrated. We had fun with the kids:)
